Smell of kitty pee - help!

Short of ripping up carpets or tying the cat to the litter tray overnight what can I use to remove the smell.
Cat is a Persian who has Polycystic kidney disease, he's been speyed so it's not the tomcat smell but is still quite strong due to his kidneys not working as well as they should.
He has been weeing in different parts of the house for a while, despite having the use of 3 litter trays, and we recently found out it's because of the PKD.
The smell is making me feel sick, so far I've tried washing the carpet but there's too many places and I sometimes don't notice it. I've tried shake n vac left down for a few hours and Neutradol air freshener directly on to the stinky areas which is having a short term effect but soon comes back or he re-pisses and it stinks to high heaven again :(

Has anyone used anything else that's had a good/decent effect.

There's an enzyme spray you can get which breaks it up, and stops the smell. You can also get it with a (uv?) torch to help see the places, if you're not sure. I bought the spray off Anazon a few years ago. Can't remember what it was called but it definitely did work.

Have you tried white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to neutralise the smell?

I would saturate the offending spot with white vinegar, let it dry and then cover with the bicarb as you would use shake-n-vac.

Leave as long as possible, then hoover up.

This is why I have laminate. The dcs5 would have stressed me, but cat's pee and poo.....

I haven't tried that, no. The carpet is just on the stairs and landing and a few rugs too. Not the whole house, thank god :) There's laminate and tiles throughout the rest of the house so those areas are easier to see the pee and to clean it up.

Biological washing powder.

Put some in hot water and use that, the enzymes in it break down the smell.
