Cat with breast gland lump

Hello mumsnetters. Would love some advice and hand holding please. Took our 3 year old cat Megan to the vets today for routine injection and runny eye. Vet somehow noticed tiny pea sized lump by one of her nipples. Vet initially recommended just checking if it grows, then recommended operation to remove it. She said it could be cancer :(. Of course I've googled and am now v upset as prognosis does not seem good. Has anyone else been through this please? We got Megan from cats protection 2 years ago; she had had two litters of kittens by then.

She would be a young cat to have mammary carcinoma, I'd have thought. What immediate action (if any) is the vet recommending?

I've not had a cat with that but other posters might have had and may comment. One of the vets who post here might also see your thread and post later so keep a weather eye on it.

My beloved Siamese girl Tabatha died of this aged 9 a few years ago. It's not a happy story, but will share it you think it will help.

In this instance I would x-ray the chest prior to surgery if clear remove the lump with good margins and send for histology. This method will give your cat the bet chance.
