The Naming of Cats

A la T.S Elliot of course.

Mine are Portia (play on 'paws' and I love Shakespeare) and Morpheus (RIP) the god of dreams.

It is inevitable that a new Maine Coon baby will enter our lives and hearts in the next few months, I cannot be without two cats and Morphy has spoiled me for anything but another Coon, so I am sure I will be searching for the perfect name again before too long.

How did you name your cats, and why?

We have Smokey, a grey tortoiseshell (named by DS) but can never agree how to spell it. I like Smoky, the vet records say Smokie but somehow she's ended up as Smokey Grin

We also have Pepper, a dark tortoiseshell, named because she is dark with cream/orange patches, a bit like crushed black peppercorns but also I thought she might make DH sneeze Grin

My neighbour has a beautiful big pedigree boy called Hermes.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 28/07/2014 20:01

Tigger because she's stripy and bouncy and has a tail shaped like a spring (v short and z shaped).

She was Whiskers at the adoption centre - didn't suit her at all.

Chester - he just looks like a Chester, a v handsome boy. DH named him after he vetoed Alan, my choice Grin

Adopted xmas eve as a kitten - he was called Claus and his brother was Santa...much too festive and on his own it just sounded like Claws!

Tiggy here. Also called Princess or Poo-bum

Our first cat was Murphy (RIP) (after Murphy's irish stout) as he was black.
Our second cat was Tabitha (RIP) as she had tabby fur.
Our current oldest cat is McGonagall (AKA Moggy) after professor McGonagall from Harry Potter who turns into a cat.
Cat 4 is Boddington (after the beer)
Cat 5 is Trevor after magical trevor www.weebls-stuff.com/songs/magical+trevor/
Cat 6 is Mabel - I wanted a pretty name for a pretty girl.
Cat 7 is Freddie - he was from an oops litter a friend's cat had and I watched him being born and we named all the litter F names - Frank, Freddie, Ferdie and Freya.
Cat 8 is Marmite - she's a very dark tortie - very similar in colour to marmite.
Cat 9 is a big fluffie maine coon cross and I was browsing beer/brewery names and came across a brewery with the name Douglas in it and it seemed perfect - it suits him perfectly :D

My son named his kittens after Anime characters Momo and Appa.
