What is most ridiculous thing you have done to avoid upsetting the cat?

I take it as read that we all sleep round the cat, and that we all sit in one position longer than we would like to avoid moving the cat, but what have you done over and above that to not upset the cat?

I ask because my cat is currently asleep on the bathroom floor as it has nice cold tiles and she is suffering in the heat. So not to disturb her I used the downstairs loo despite being undressed and ready for bed.

We designed our house around the cats, they cost us £1k in folding kitchen doors to stop them sleeping on the induction hob and setting off the alert sound...

We nearly built a porch (costing a substantial amount of money) so that when our first baby was born, I could stop the cat escaping out the front door when I wheeled the buggy in.

(terraced house, cats never found their way to the road so totally paranoid about them escaping out the front door)

In the end, we bought a room divider thing. Ditched it after about six months when we realised that they came back after a couple of minutes sniffing around in the front garden.

DH built a ramp from the fence to the roof of a shed where one of our cats loved to sunbathe. This was because he was worried about one of our cats jumping because he had a dodgy leg - the cat ignored the ramp and kept jumping.

DH also stays up and waits for naughty-cat to come in at night so he can lock the cat flap. He says that if he calls her and then locks the flap she sulks but if he waits for her to come in in her own time she's quite happy.

All houses I've ever bought have been because of the pets

Which is of course ridiculous

I missed a family party in another town last night as LO has catflapophobia and would be shut in for 24hrs. Little fecker stayed in all night anyway.

Have parted with 1200 quid in an attempt to save one cat who died anyway

There is very little I wouldn't do tbh

My friend is moving house soon and is leaving all packing to the last minute so as not to unsettle the cat!

Bought a new back door. Had to buy one which would be easy to put a cat flap in.

Both sofas have throws on them, with a folded baby blanket across the back to make it easier to was the cat hairs off.

Our cat has her own water glass on our coffee table

We have a Sureflap with curfew mode. It lets her in at any time but locks overnight. Therefore no waiting up.

I just told DH about the curfew cat flap but he informs me he wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't know for sure that she was in.
She has him firmly under her paw.

My dh has done that, he pretends to the neighbours that I make him go out in the car at 1am looking for the cat.

Usually as dh drove off I'd hear the thump of the cat landing on the wheelie bin as he came in.

We bought an induction hob so the cat can't get set on fire when he's mooching on the worktops.

We keep a bowl of water in the bathroom so that elderly lady cat (elc) doesn't have to go downstairs for a drink (fat fluffy cat - ffc also drinks from the bowl too, but elc lets him).

And it stops them drinking out of my night time water glass.

I've just remembered another one DH does - we have two living rooms, one with an open fire and the other with a log burner.
In the Winter we usually light one of them - he choses the one in the room where the cat has settled.

We have one three-sweater sofa and 2 fat armchairs in our living room. One of the armchairs belongs to PestoCat and he has priority and his own special cushion

DD1 has tried to claim it for sitting on herself, but we don't let her...

Didn't change the bed when I wanted too as she was asleep on it.

Didn't make the bed as she was asleep in the pile of uncovered duvet.

Didn't hoover as he is scared of the noise.

No longer put the washer on at 5am in case it scares them awake.

Had chicken every Sunday for months so the late FABCat could have a treat every week.

our cat is not allowed outside on her own (no garden, very expensive fancy breed, also not the brightest and would get run over), but she desperately wants to, so we walk her every day. She follows us, but she's super slow because she stops to sniff at everything and nibble on flowers. So it takes us about half an hour to walk around the block.

We endure the tantrum of our cat in the middle of the night, the easy thing we could do is to lock him out of our bedroom but Dh refuses to do it because he is worried it will hurt the cat's feeling

Our house only has a courtyard, no lawn, so DH and I would pick the lushest grass from the park opposite and offer it to him. Until we planted some oats and cat-mint in the yard for him to nibble on.

Here is Moggie McLeod in one if his current favourite spots- hogging the bed and the remote control! He also likes sitting in front of the TV blocking the view when we're playing on the xBox. Its not so bad when he's lying down, but he does tend to leap up there and sit in front of the TV staring at you. Do I move him? Of course I don't! Does rather spoil things when I'm playing on the XBox, but is obviously all my fault as I should be admiring his overall fabulousness rather than playing games!

Kitty McLeod now has room service in DD's bedroom as Moggie was scoffing all her food too!

Oh yes, and it is currently hot as hell here so I've got the electric fan on in the bedroom. Moggie McLeod is stretched out on the lovely cool side of the bed whilst I am in the hot corner. Ah, the joys of being cat slaves!

The baby changing unit is still up 2 years after we don't need it anymore because we didn't want to upset the cat. It's her favourite sleeping place where she can stay up high away from our toddler and keep watch on the garden for intruders. Many a time she's spotted another cat roaming into the garden and she's off the changing unit like she's got a rocket up her..... Crazy thing is we had to stop using the changing unit when our dd was very small because the cat was always on it and would get massively annoyed if she was asked to vacate it so I ended up changing the baby on the floor so as to not upset her royal highness.

I bought a flat with its own front door (rather than one in a tenement) so that my cat could come in and out.

I then got a new front door fitted (with catflap)....

Must have cost an extra £10k..

Well currently we have no internal door mat as it has been replaced by some very fashionable tin foil and orange peel as mscat decided to wee there repeatedly. I have also bought solar powered, motion activated sonic cat scarers to deter neighbours cats who might be stressing her out.

When we were moving house we rejected several houses as they weren't right for the cats/dogs.
In fact we based our house hunting requirements around our pets needs.

Aww, our lovely old lady died at the weekend. She was about 21, had been poorly for a while, and it was her time.

We were pretty sure she has had dementia for the past few years, and last Christmas we suddenly realised that it wouldn't work to have DSil stay over in the living room because that had become DCat's overnight room.

If we didn't leave a light on in there for her when we went up to bed, she would yowl, loudly, at random intervals through the night. The light fixed it like magic.

We visited DSil instead, obviously...
