I love my cat but...

She's peeing next to and not in her litter tray. She will poo in her litter tray but not wee, although she will if I'm watching. She does it at night when I'm in bed. I've tried everything. I've followed advice from the vets and cat protection. My next step is to remove the flooring but if it continues I think I may need to get her rehomed. I just can't cope with the stench anymore. I can't imagine not having her here. Please help.

I'd try getting another tray. Some cats like to have two and they're only cheap.

How old is she and when was she last vetted though? (Sometimes, older cats develop a bit of arthritis and find it difficult to get up on a normal-sided tray - so take the 'easy' way out for some of their duties.)

Multiple trays are the first thing to try. My old cat was peeing all over the place, we have four trays now (down from six or seven at one point) and she is fine.

Tried multiple trays. She still wee's beside them. Maybe I'll fill the floor space with them :)

She's under a year. Been to the vets a couple months ago. Tried feliway, tried moving trays, multiple trays, shutting the door where she wee's, changed litter numerous times. Done it all.

Fill it with fresh compost.

Yep, try a different litter. You can also get a spray that encourages them to wee in a certain place, so you could try a squirt of that in one litter tray.

It's worth a shot, no cat in the garden chooses a gritty material over soft recently dug soil, most of us have a bag of compost hanging around.

Failing that puppy training pads on the floor.

Oh, and also use a 'stay off' spray on the floor, or she will carry on going there.

What about trying those absorbant pads they use in nursing homes etc. You could just throw them away everyday then.

Do you have a hooded tray like the one Gertie linked to? Puppy training pads is also an excellent idea.

I use pampers disposable changing mats in the places my elderly cat sometimes goes, they're a bit cheaper than the puppy training pads.
