I am moving on Saturday and a bit worried about my boy. He is nearly 6 and we have had him 2 years but his life before us was very unsettled. It took us ages to make him feel calm!

We are only moving 2 mins away. I am thinking of shutting him in the bedroom (where he sleeps all day usually) and moving all the other furniture. Then getting him In the carrier and driving him to the new place along with the bedroom furniture. Then we can shut him in the new bedroom with our bed etc and we will already have moved the other stuff so there wont be lots of banging. Once our helpers go home we will let him out

Does this sound OK? He absolutely detests the carrier so want him to be in it for as little time as possible. I have already put it in the lounge so he is used to it being around.

Also, he loves going outside, how long do we need to keep him in for? I thought 2 weeks but seen a lot of people saying 1?

sounds good he will be used to your bedroom furniture and yes keep him in for at least two weeks with plenty of access to all the windows to look out of so he will familiarise himself with the look of the outside of your new house as you are only moving a short distance it is possible he will make his way back to your old house but if he does go awol you will know where to look and good luck hope you have a smooth move

I would also advise getting Feliway spray it in the carrier 15 mins before he gets in, spray the new room 15 mins before he gets out to help reduce anxiety.

Thanks both, going to go and have a look at Feliway tomorrow. He's already worried about the packing Sad
