help, beautiful kittens and cat allergy

I gave in to my children and got two kittens, they've been great to have around. I started blaming hayfever, but it was like a hellish version that got worse and worse. Four weeks on I've realised its the kittens. Family and friends don't have cats and I've never thought about possible allergy. Despite constantly dosing up on anti-histamines, different ones too, it honestly feels like Someone has rubbed grit in my eyes when they approach. My eyes are glued shut in the mornings and I'm at the point where its hard to function at work. It gets worse as time goes on. I'm a bit wits end.

And advice? Anyone?

Sorry, sounds like you will have to rehome them. If that is too much for your children to bear, there is a breed of cats (siberians) which do not produce the protein linked to cat allergies, so maybe you could investigate getting one of those (they are vv expensive though!)

Friend has 2 Siberians, loves 'em to bits.

Have you actually seen GP to try strong meds? I think you'll have to rehome, sorry, better done sooner than later.

Are you absolutely sure it's not your hayfever as it seems to have been a bad few weeks for people here.

there are some wipes you can order on line called petal wipes you wipe the cats fur with them and it takes the saliva which is where the enzyme is off their fur a lot of people have had success with this it might be worth trying before rehoming

I'm strongly allergic to cats but when I seem to become immune to ones I live with after a couple of months. We have two now and I'm relatively okay with them. Don't give up hope yet!

I am allergic to cats, and find that it takes about 6-8 weeks for me to "get used" to a new kitten in the house.

We have three cats, they don't affect me at all now.

Might be worth waiting a few more weeks if you can?
