Kitten very poorly after first jab....

She has hardly moved all afternoon which is the opposite to how she normally is, spoke to vet who said this can happen but if she is still bad tomos to contact them again.

Anyone else had this?

Yes my cat is like this after every vaccination, even the booster. It lasts 24hrs and then she's back to normal.

Mine have often been a bit subdued. I'd wait until tomorrow morning to see how she is then.

PS - what's the temperature like with you? Seniorboy is flaked out but that's due to the ambient temperature in the house having risen dramatically in the last week. Maybe that could be contributing with her?

Yes thankfully about 10.30 in the evening she started to perk up and by morning was back to normal. Scary how ill she looked, could barely move was really rather upsetting. Am dreading her next one now in three weeks.

Its quite cool inside where we live so don't think it was that but she def had a temp with it - could feel the heat coming off her. Such a shame we can't give them calpol!!

Imagine what she's have been like if she'd got the real thing then - and not just the vaccine.

PS - glad she's OK. It's such a responsibility that we have to take.

Calpol would have most likely killed her so its a good job you didn't give her that!

Some vaccines are worse for this than others, it maybe worth asking for a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory injection at the same time as the second vaccine to reduce theses affects. In my practice this was a very common side effect in cats until we moved to a non-adjuvant vaccine 4 years ago since then we have not seen it.

Is that purevax? Mines had a bad reaction on that & when I checked his vax card it was an out of date vaccine.

I was not happy with them.

I still make them read the exp date out before he has jabs. I bet they love me.

Dear Goodness - they used an out of date vaccine ? How is that possible? I'd be questioning most things about that practice's methods, thereafter, because stock control of meds is such a basic thing. (Even if the vaccine was actually viable given that many 'use by' dates are extremely conservative.)

Yes it is Purevax, but vaccine going out of date is very poor practice. We get through 7 to 8 boxes per month it comes in with at least 15 months date on it. So either they see very few cats or their stock control is very poor. We stock control every day as new stock comes in, but I maybe a tad OTT about this.

I don't think you are OTT actually. Meds are a huge weapon in the vet's armoury and after spending a lot of time at my own vet recently (and being an observant cuss) I've seen just how seriously the vet nurses take their prescription filling and stock control. (When I had become part of the furniture.) They don't/didn't treat it lightly at all.

One of my cats was like this after his first vaccination, which was done on a Friday evening. He even started to drag his back legs. As soon as I'd contacted the emergency vet and rang a taxi to take him he just got up and started strolling around as usual! I was so stressed, but I think he was just feeling a bit sorry for himself.

Hi thanks for all the replies, that is scary re out of date jabs I can't seem to find the vacination card right now but will double check when it turns up.

I obv would never give a cat human meds but it would have been useful for the vet to have warned me she might be poorly afterwards, I don't remember my other cat having any ill effects at all. Will def be talking to the vet about giving her some pain relief with second one in a few weeks.

She is back to her fiesty self again now thank god she is a character, currently tearing about growling to herself

My kittens were the same after their first jabs too, VERY subdued.
They have their next one this week, I'm hoping as they are bigger and stronger now the effect will be less.
