BSH cats - are they all this greedy?

We adopted a beautiful blue BSH girl a few weeks ago. She's settled in wonderfully but is driving me mad with her food demands! Even if she's just been fed she'll hang around and whack me regularly to try to get me to give her more. I thought at first she just wanted attention but unless I feed her the whacks get more frequent and she starts licking my hand/arm/elbow!

In case of relevance she has a gluten and soya allergy so we're giving her Encore food. She has continuous access to dry food and water but is always trying to get me to open another tin of wet food. She's just over 5kg in weight and we're letting her have 2.5 tins per day whereas the lady we adopted her from (she's a rescue cat but no history of mistreatment) said she was giving her 1.5 per day. Recently wormed so no issues there.

Any ideas?

They are demanding cats who know they are supreme beings whom their staff should worship.
That said you need to ignore her additional demands for food they do soon get bored of doing it. As nearly doubling her food intake will shortly result in near doubling in size of your cat. Around 5Kg is about right for her.

You're feeding her on Encore? You must have a very understanding bank manager!

Of course I do he would eat me alive if I didn't. He is after all one of the most spiteful cats know to man.

The only cat to stand up to ours is a bsh, he goes out of his way to wind him up.

It makes ours apolectic with rage.

She's about 6 Fluffy.

My shopping bill has increased by about 25% since we got her! We didn't quite realise the financial implication of her need for a special diet. She is luffly though so we don't begrudge her it much .

They do - play you that is. I'm pretty indulgent with Seniorboy now that he's elderly. (Although even I wince a bit when adding the occasional box of Encore to the shopping cart.)

I'm sure she's gorgeous and worth it but can't be sure until we've seen a photo...:)

PS - quite a lot of the Encore range is complementary cat food as opposed to complete so best to keep an eye on her nutritional balance if she's eating a lot of it.

6 is well out of kitten hood then. Sounds like she really likes encore.

Can you get it cheaper online?

Can I suggest Arden Gange Cat Food it is a range of complete foods that are grain, gluten, soya and dairy free. They have made good quality dog for years and have recently started making cat food.

The very discerning felines in my household reckon it's pretty okay, they like the salmon and potato flavour and is not as financially draining as encore.

Ours is greedy, but not as bad as our friends who has to go to the cat equivalent of weight watchers! The breed is prone to be overweight.

We feed our girl on Royal Canin British Shorthair, not sure if that is any cheaper than Encore?

Strewth - anything is cheaper than Encore, I think! Darned cat eats better than I do.

My cat can be greedy and is very demanding when he wants food. The other day I was mowing the lawn and he was whinging and I was ignoring him. I stopped mowing to talk to a neighbour who was walking past. I was really surprised, but not as surprised as the neighbour, when Puss started rubbing himself around his legs. Obviously he is now trying his "I'm starving, call the RSPCA" routine on strangers. Puss also has my new bf wrapped around his paw because he is constantly getting up to let the cat in or out of the house. My cat now has 2 slaves.

1 gets you 10 that the new BF is now also surreptitiously feeding him!

She's gorgeous, what colour eyes does she have?

She can't have that Royal Canin food umiaisha as it contains stuff she's allergic to. Will check out Arden Grange thanks lonecat. Maybe I won't have to sell the house to pay for her food after all

She has orange eyes and is very good at fixing them on me in a death stare

Ahhh she is gorgeous - ours has the death stare and permanent scowl down to a tee too!
