Cat Spraying?

RubbishMantra · 04/06/2014 15:35

This morning there was sticky yellow stuff on the metal recycling bin, right next to Mantracat's food and water bowl. He's never peed anywhere than outside/in his litter tray to my knowledge.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with, a: is the sticky stuff cat spray?

b: is it likely to be another cat (considering cats don't pee near their own food)

Mantracat's neutered isn't he?

Could another cat have got in?

(Actually, sticky yellow stuff sounds like orange juice dregs to me. Could someone in the family have had a mishap?)

PS - did you actually get down and sniff it?

RubbishMantra · 04/06/2014 16:39

Yes, he's neutered. We have a catflap, and I also noticed cat hair around the kitchen window, which is always open. He really only uses catflap, so could be another cat's hair. Mantracat hardly moults.

The stuff was almost gelatinous (sorry if that's TMI)

Um, yes, did have a sniff - it didn't smell very pee-like, and cat pee usually stinks doesn 't it? Confused

Yes tomcat spray does stink. And normal cat pee does certainly have an er aroma. I really don't know what it could be.

I have a vague memory of sticky yellow from somewhere - it's just that all my personal boys have been neutered so it's beating me where that memory is from. (Their very occasional protest sprays have been clear and only vaguely aromatic.)

In any case, as a matter of general principle, I'd proof the house from 'outside influences'. If your house is easy to get into and you have food etc around you're liable to become Party Central and that could genuinely lead to spraying all over the place, either from a rattled Mantracat or from Topcat and his gang.

Hmm, I've been mulling over whether to replace existing catflap with a chip one, looks like I'll need to take the plunge...

Good idea - and have a think about use of the kitchen window as well?

Can't resist it.
