Cat hit by car outside house

Someone knocked on the door to ask if it was mine. It isn't but the three people stood on the doorstep refused to touch it so I picked it up - it was just about alive but died within seconds. Wrapped it in a blanket and it's in a washing up bowl in my garage. Rang emergency vet who advised to take it to local surgery in morning. What's the procedure here? Will I just be able to leave it with them?

Poor thing. My cat was hit by a car and the homeowners just buried it. It had a microchip so I could be contacted in that particular situation. Hopefully this cat is chipped and the owners can collect it.

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2014 20:36

YY they will scan for a chip, and should deal with this for you. Thanks for taking it in. There's probably a worried owner around. x

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/06/2014 20:36

Yes, they will scan for a chip & if the owners not chipped it they may be phoning vets tomorrow to see if he's been bought in.

Poor little cat.

cozietoesie · 02/06/2014 20:40

Yes - thanks for holding it at the last and for taking it in.

berberana · 02/06/2014 21:16

Oh you're making me cry... Thanks fir the advice and for saying nice things. Nothing you can do seems adequate does it? X

Believe me if the owner turns up they will think what you did was way more than adequate. They will be devastated but in time take comfort from the fact that someone was with their pet as they passed and they will be able to say their goodbyes if they so wish, and decide what to do from here IYKWIM.

OddFodd · 02/06/2014 21:31

If that was my cat, I would buy you a large bouquet of flowers for your kindness.

timtam23 · 02/06/2014 21:58

How kind of you to take it in. I would be so grateful if it were my cat. I hope the owners can be found

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2014 22:00

I live in fear in case anything happens to Sparklingcat and she gets found by a member of the 'it's just a cat' brigade rather than a kind, normal person.

berberana · 03/06/2014 10:33

Well I took it to the vets this morning but it wasn't chipped. Thought I'd put a few posters up locally but hard to strike the right note. Not the nicest way to find out you've list your pet but better than always wondering and if it were my cat I'd want to know it had been taken care of..

Your call beberana but that would be a hard poster to draft. If an owner was concerned, I would have thought that contacting the local vet would be one of their first calls and presumably the vet practice will keep some details/ remember the incident.

It only emphasises how important it is to chip your animals.

Is there a lost/found pet database online? I think I found one when my cat went missing? What about a local facebook group for your town/village? There are lost pets listed on one I'm on regularly.
