Introducing kittens to our other cat - any suggestions?!

Today we brought them into the room she was in, in a cat carrier (wire one so she could see then clearly). She came over, sniffed and then hissed a lot at them (kittens completely bemused) then stalked off and stared furiously at them from a safe distance. After 5 mins we let the kittens out of the basket, if they went anywhere near her she hissed a lot, after a few mins we took the kittens away and out them in the room they are sleeping in at the moment.

So what next? Repeat the same exercise later on or tomorrow? Any other ideas?

I think you are meant to keep them seperate for a week & swap them over so they get used to each others smells.

So, for example, kittens in bedroom. Tomorrow kittens moved to a different room tomorrow and big cat allowed in to sniff where they've been and repeat.

I have read that kittens make adults think mom is nearby, which would be a threat in their territory but I don't know how true this is.

Kodi & shorty videos on youtube are really good on introductions.

i foster kittens for yorkshire cat rescue and what i do when i have newcomers is set up a box for them in the main front room with the connecting door to the kitchen closed , with a water bowl and litter tray and just let them out of the carrier, i find that after an intiial hiss and sniff from my resi cats everyone settles down pretty quickly the kits learn not to go near the less friendly cats and settle in much more quickly, funnily enough my boy cats accept the interlopers very quickly its my little girl cat who has a swipe at them if they come too close usually within a couple of days they are all friends and i find the kittens curled up with the big ones the pic is two from yorkshire with jasper

Awwww! Thanks Issey. We'll keep plugging away then. No hissing today when she saw them (they were asleep though) just a bit of arched back and backing away.
