Frontline Combo ....

My 6 month old kitten had a tick just below his eyelid [gross!] ... Took him to the vet who removed it and said he may have caught it there last week when he was in getting neutered!?!
Anyway, vet gave us frontline combo to use. I've put it on him at tea time and he's just scratching CONSTANTLY at his neck
Is there anything I can do for him? My last cat used the normal frontline for 15 years without any problem.

Have you got the instructions? There should be a section on adverse reactions that will tell you if scratching is normal or if you ought to wash it off.

The vets didn't have a box ... they only gave us 3 pipettes in their foil wrapping ...

Ok, you can get the leaflet off the net. Human meds have a code on the pack, try and get a download.

I don't know what to do for adverse reactions (other than see if there is some kind of suitable antihistamine maybe) but I'm surprised that your vet is still giving out frontline - for fleas certainly it's near enough useless now as the fleas have become immune.

We use advantage/advocate (keep getting them confused, it's one of them!)

It s the alcohol carrier that is cold as it dries making the cat itchy and should wear off after 24 hours.

The only options for ticks are Frontline, Broadline and Seresto collar. Advantage and Advocate do not cover for ticks.

Thanks for your replies. The vet used frontline, as lonecat says ... it's the only one they use that is suitable for ticks. Mind, I didn't realise frontline is so bad now for fleas ... I used it up until last year with my other cat and never had a problem with fleas.
I rang the vet yesterday, and they said that frontline is topical (whereas advocate seeps through into the bloodstream) so I should just wipe the area where the frontline was applied. I'd already done this the night before but it made no difference to my cats itching. He was sick in the morning (quite a big bit!) and he's been itching his ears and neck still quite a lot. He seems more settled today though.
Am a bit at the vet though tbh ... first they've said he could have picked up the tick there, then gave me drops to prevent further ticks! No box. And I'm sure frontline is not topical .. I've always believed it is absorbed into the bloodstream, then when the flea or tick bites, the frontline is ingested in their system and they die...
