Cat litter

I have started buying cat food online (4 gorgeous cats) and was thinking of doing the same with cat litter, but don't want to be left with a load of stuff that's useless and gets smelly after a couple of hours.

Any recommendations?

Dangerous territory buying large stocks, Elaine - unless you know you have a firm favourite. (They can be real fussy on the type of litter they use.) On the other hand, you have four cats so some of them might be happy to use litter that the others reject. How many trays do you use?

I hate Bob Martin but the antibacterial litter crystals are fab. I think they are made of silica (the little sachets of DO NOT EAT things you find when buying handbags). Anyway, it dedicates everything (even poo) after a couple of hours and you don't have to change it very often at all. A vet at work recommended it to me and I haven't looked back.

Which litter do you use now?

We use the Verdo wood pellets which we get online with free next day delivery. It was what they used at CP when we got our cat so we just stuck with it. Doesn't smell at all and lasts a week if she's only using it at night.

Just have one large tray - they also have access to outside.

Tend to buy whatever's chepest at the supermarket - using a Tesco one at the moment which is okayish. The cats tend not to be too fussy.

Initial price does look high, but it lasts ages and with 2 indoor cats I need something that keeps the whiff at bay!

I use some compressed dried grass stuff from the supermarket - not clumpy or nasty when wee'd/pooed in. Hardly ever used though - just for emergencies overnight.

Cat's Best here too. Tracks a bit but clumps really well and flushes easily.

I also recently started using cats' best oko plus & can really recommend it, apart from the cats being able to spread it around the house more than they did with the last litter (which was Bio Catolet paper pellets - also a good litter but needed changing much more often and did not clump)

We moved our litter trays to the cupboard under the stairs, so most of it stays out of sight, the main problem is them kicking it out of the tray rather than them carrying it around. We have a hand held Dyson which is very handy for picking it all up.

Look for a local farm shop that can do cheap localism delivery? There's a farm supply shop that delivers to us 2 bags of wood pellets for £15 (free delivery). I could not have a better set up. Lasts us most of 1 yr (3 cats who go out a lot) & can throw most of the waste on the compost heap.

You can use chick crumb as cat litter. As long as your cat doesn't decide he doesn't like it anymore
