Crackjed the sureflap catflap!

After only a day! She stills needs a bit of a hand on the way out, but has already learnt to wait for the click on the outside to let her back in.

Couple of questions please!

1. When will she be likely to not need the litter tray anymore?
2. She is a British Short Hair and so is quite stocky and not very agile - will she ever be able to jump fences etc as so far she has not attempted to leave the confines of the garden!

I think I'd leave the litter tray there until you've found out what her new pattern is anyway. I'll confess to being a little cowed on the matter of indoor tray use by having two outside-going cats who both preferred to do their duty in the house. (Warm, dry, safe, self-cleaning etc - I could understand their point and to be honest, I didn't mind. Tray cleaning doesn't bother me, it saves complaints from neighbours about poo in their roses and it enables you to keep an eye on their general health via their innards.)

So - When? I'm afraid I don't know. It's rather down to her - and the weather outside may influence things. (Cold, wet, packed and crusty earth, all those will come to bear.)

And the jumping? Again, I reckon it's down to her and to the incentive for doing it. She might turn out to be a real homebody/gardenbody or she might suddenly develop an adventurous streak, especially if it's nice weather and she's in hot pursuit of something. I wouldn't assume a thing from her build - they can always surprise you.

She has mastered the exit route too now - proud cat owner moment!

Thanks for the advice. Will see how it goes with the litter tray, know it is part of pet ownership and all but it makes me cringe. Would rather hang on to it than risk her having an accident.

She seems to have got a bit more adventurous as the day has worn on. Whilst spying on her I noticed her sizing up a tree so maybe she will brave it in the future!

Once ours had mastered the cat door (20 mins for both - cheeky boys) they never used the litter tray again.

I'm sure she'll master trees too when she sees the potential fun at the top of them
