My cat has a lump under her nipple.

Am very, very worried.

It appeared overnight, definitely wasn't there yesterday. Quite big, 4cm round.

Vet said it's possibly hormonal as she's just been spayed but could be cancer. The lump is soft and white.

Been told to wait two weeks and see if it shrinks.

Did tell the vet that I didn't want to take any chances with her as she's so precious to me and they said they could take it out now but waiting two weeks wouldn't do ant harm.

I'm scared, and I don't know what to do.

:(

Oh dear, I'd want it out straightaway if it was my cat too. Could you get a second opinion?

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 20:57

Only one vet in my town, MN is my second opinion.

Cat (Comic) seems happy enough. Currently on my chest purring away.

Eating as normal, drinking as normal.

Can't bear the thought of her suffering in any way.

She's nearly 10.

Could you go to another town? I drag mine all over the midlands & he doesn't travel well either.

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 21:22

I trust our vet. I really do.

Same cat swallowed some cotton many years ago and they operated and removed it.

They saved my last house rabbit twice, once when she had a brain parasite and once when she was ripped open by another rabbit.

Helped my current house rabbit when she dislocated her hip.

Looked after our hopeless boy-cat when he was beaten up, discovered his genitals weren't quite right and sorted him out.

Chatted to me on the phone when another cat's kitten came out in reverse and got stuck and talked me through what to do.

They've also taken several injured pigeons off my hands done whatever they thought was best.

They're amazing. I totally trust them.

I think if I was massively injured I'd head there rather than my A&E.

Ninja

If you're on such good and trusting terms with your vet, why not phone them tomorrow, saying how worried you are and what might be the consequences of waiting ? Talk to them some rather than beating yourself into a frenzy. (Because you're going to be fit for nothing if you just wait out the fortnight without doing anything.)

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 22:56

Yes, I will do that.

I won't get through the day otherwise.

Confused

I'm thinking it's a cyst. I've had one myself which needed surgery to remove and my cyst swelled to the size it was within about 12 hours. This one has also appeared quickly.

I'd have noticed any growing lumps on her.

But I will call tomorrow.

Feel a bit of a numpty, spend half of January down there with a bunny with a dislocated hip. I was a tad emotional then too. Worried they'll think I have pet münchausens or something.

I can't just sit here stressing about it though.

A lump that size on a cats nipple I would be doing chest x-rays and if they were clear removing it. Don't want to be the harbinger of doom, but cat 'breast cancer' is a super nasty second only to mouth cancer in simple terms.

If it is cyst or some other lumpy thing at least it is off and you know.

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 23:04

It's her lower nipple.

Near her back leg. So not near her chest.

The vet also mentioned that this cat was iffy under anaestetic when she was spayed (a month ago).

I will phone tomorrow and talk it through.

There you go - you've got Lone's views to start off the conversation (in a nice anonymous sort of way.) And she's an experienced vet.

Best of luck.

(Oh - and don't be prodding the lump every 5 minutes to see if it's still there. There's a terrible temptation to do that, I know.)

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/02/2014 07:31

Chest x-rays are about cancer spread not where the lump is.

cozietoesie · 27/02/2014 07:51

That was quite a late spaying she had, ninja ?

NinjaBunny · 27/02/2014 07:56

Yes, very late.

She's been a indoor cat until we recently moved (December). Old house was near a busy road and backed onto a fire station and I'd have been terrified of her being hit by something. Only went out supervised in the garden so it didn't seem necessary.

When we moved I had them all spayed and microchipped.

Not sure if that's made a difference.

I have an appointment at 10.30am.

Just have to sit and wait until then...

cozietoesie · 27/02/2014 09:04

Let us know how she gets on - and best of luck to her.

NinjaBunny · 27/02/2014 09:09

Fuck, time is going slowly today.

:(

She's sitting on my chest with both her arms around me and having a purr. Didn't want her breakfast.

Can't get up and do anything, feel like she needs m to cuddle her.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 27/02/2014 09:12

Then just cuddle. Enjoy the good time with her - she certainly will!

NinjaBunny · 27/02/2014 11:29

Back now.

Biopsy done. Vet took two samples but on both just milk came out. Weird, but probably more to do with hormones and means it's very unlikely that it's anything dangerous.

Yay!

She's going to look at the samples properly later and call me. But she did say there may be no cells in the sample anyway.

Bought her some posh food and cat milk on the way home and she's eaten a bit of that.

Much more relieved now. My headache and the pounding in my chest has gone.

She's currently under the table in a strip of sunlight.

:)

cozietoesie · 27/02/2014 11:34

That's better news for you then. When will she be contacting you, roughly?

NinjaBunny · 27/02/2014 18:25

They've phoned back.

All milk. Few blood cells. Lump should go down over the next few weeks, if not I can bring her back.

Am so pleased.

We're back cuddling and purring now but earlier she was pretty desperate to go out which is NOT happening today.

But she's okay. Am very relieved.

:)

Thank you for the advice!!
