Insurance for Senior Cats

I have insurance with Argos but now renewal has come up and my ginger boy has had his tenth birthday Argos want £50 a month. That's for him and my queen who us 14 and a half, with £110 excess. They're neutered, chipped etc and no previous health issues.

What I'm looking for is a similar policy, about £3.5k of cover per year with an excess that doesn't require you to pay a percentage of treatment costs along with the excess (Churchill state excess plus 35% of treatment costs, e&l 35% plus excess for eg).

Tried Tesco but they insist my address doesn't exist (even though we've been here 2 years). Direct Line won't insure over 10 year olds.

Any other ideas?

I had a long hard think about it when I acquired Seniorboy (13 at the time.) He was a house cat - so no RTAs - and I guess that no-one expected him to keep going for another 6 years as he has. So I decided to give up on insurance in view of the costs and/or then non-availability for cats of his age. He's now been on meds for the past year and a half for his arthritis which cost me about £40 a month and that's it.

But I've been lucky.

Do your two go outside?

My two elderly girls (14/13) are insured with petplan....but they've been with them since kittenhood. I'm not sure they take on new clients at that age to be honest.

I pay £20 a month per cat, so £40 in total, with a £125 +20% excess now per cat too. Expensive, but necessary as I can't really change now due to age and pre existing conditions.

That actually sounds comparable with the quote the OP had from Argos.

In. General companies will not start new policies for cats over 8. So once they are over the age of 8years you stick with the company you are with or 'self insure'.

Ok. Sounds like Argos are the best bet. Tesco would be better if they'd recognise we exist - grrrr.
