he just keeps doing it lol not literally but after he's eaten or if he walks by his bowls he scrapes his paw near his bowls as if he is pretending to bury it.

btw he eats his dry food and seems to love it so not as if he's saying I don't like it

some kittens do this and some dont do you know if he came from a house or is he a reacue that could have been outside, as a fosterer i have found that the kittens that had come from outside or feral backgrounds tend to do this more

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/02/2014 19:42

My cat does it when he's thinking "well if I get desperate I'll have it later", never seen him do it to a bowl of warm chicken.

Costacoffeeplease · 23/02/2014 21:45

Yes he's trying to cover it up to have it later - a few of mind do it too

timtam23 · 23/02/2014 22:19

my young cat does this, he was a tiny stray kitten when we found him. Neither of my other cats ever did this "burying food" thing although they were also rescue/stray kittens. I think it is a way of trying to hide food from predators or rival cats, the main problem for me is that he also does it with his water bowl and spills water everywhere!

One of ours does it and always has - he nine now and we regularly here the swish swish swish f his claws on the laminate.

my kitten does the same, I think they're leaving their mark. When they scratch they leave pheromones there to warn others not to touch his.her food or territory much like peeing.

some cats especially certain exotic breeds tend to swish surface of water as they would in the wild to disperse the dirty water and drink the clean. Big cats do this too.

Glad I've read this, as our new rescue cat is doing this & we had no idea what it was all about! Older cats we had in the past never did it. Our new cat has scraped all the paint off the skirting board near where her bowls are.
