Four month old kitten come into heat - argh

Luckily her brother is being neutered tomorrow because I persuaded the vet as he is a big boy - they have a policy of not neutering until 4 1/2 months. So by their policy his sister would be pregnant by then! In the meantime I guess I am on incest patrol until tomorrow? Will her early heat persuade vet to spay her? She is howling at doors, people and well...TWERKING ....

I think your vet will neuter if you say your girl has already come into season.

If she's a decent weight and healthy, I'd certainly ask.

Have you got all the doors and windows triple-locked?

I would ask, also is there a different vet in town who may have a different policy?

Or as nasty as it may seem, you could still have her spayed in two weeks.

Oh lord! DH just got home and said they were DTD all evening but he didn't think it was a problem "because they're related" so he assumed nothing would result.......

I wouldn't be too too worried about pregnancy because if you can get an early spaying (speak to the vet tomorrow) then the op would take care of any problem. It's just that when they're in a mood to party and get out of the house (which they have a real talent for) then they can be real stupid with eg roads and cars if they see a handsome bit of stuff across the road, say.

Ovulation in cats is triggered by mating, so she is probably pg from yesterday.

DH has been educated and is horrified. Going to ask vet to spay her this week please.

When I was a student one of my flat mates came home with two adorable balls of fluff, brother and sister

Our vet advised us to wait until they were both sexually mature before getting them neutered and that our male cat would be incapable of fathering any kittens until he was at least 6 months .... Hah!!!

Our girl kitten had her first season at 4.5 months and I've never seen a creature act so brazenly - she was throwing herself on her brother who was completely bemused for the first 24 hours but obviously managed to get the hang of things pretty quickly after that because girl kitten gave birth to a litter of three kittens a few weeks later

All was ok although she seemed to stop growing as soon as she got pg so was a tiny adult, oh and my flatmate whose cats they supposedly were buggered off on holiday leaving me to organise homes for the kittens and pay for the cats to be neutered

It reminds me of a time I went to collect huge numbers of pregnant cats and kittens from a house that was becoming overrun as none had been neutered. A well-spoken, sensible and educated-seeming owner told me that she couldn't understand how the cats had got pregnant as they never went out. When I pointed out that she had a load of unneutered males and females actually living in the same house she seemed shocked and said that couldn't be it - THEY WERE ALL RELATED!

My vet is one of the ones doing it (there's a link to find a local one on that page) & I had mine done this week. My two older cats weren't done until about 6 months; both had come into season & were doing all that unladylike stuff mentioned above!

I don't know if it was because they were older & bigger but they def took longer to recover from the op than the little one. She was absolutely fine within a couple of hours at home.

Happy to report that thanks to CHAT in Sussex we have a neutered cat - she is bouncing around and hasn't had any ill-effects. Her brothers turn is this week. I really can't speak highly enough of CHAT (Celia Hammond)
