Best scratching post

DP and I are getting a rescue cat, we met her yesterday and she's coming home with us on Monday, yippee! She's four years old and is very petite. I want to buy a scratch post, ideally one with a platform or something up high so she can escape from my 1yo toddler whenever she wants. Does anyone have any recommendations of something sturdy and with lots of room for her to stretch out and scratch?

It's quite likely you will end up buying a few as all cats are different.

I would recommend, as Polter said, to go for the tallest you can as most cats like to stretch up as they scratch and it's quite surprising how far they can reach doing that. Also make sure that the base is wide enough to not topple over.

My older cat prefers a flat scratching board, I buy reversible ones from TK Max for $4.99.

It is very solid and cat uses it a lot, we had a fully carpet one before which lasted about 2 years but it was down to the cardboard for a long time.

You need one with a heavy base so when they climb up it it doesn't topple over.

What colour is she?

She is pure black, with a gorgeous shiny coat. I've bee getting the house ready for her arrival on Monday!

A 4 year old black female cat? The rescue will love you! (They're quite difficult to rehome for some reason. I love black cats, myself.)

We'll need a photo of course when she arrives.

My local rescue has 5 pages of cats, a good 85% are black or black and whites.

Ones been there over 900 days

We weren't bothered at all what she looked like really, we chose her because she has lived with toddlers before and ticked all our other 'lifestyle' boxes (outdoor cat, could live with other pets in the future etc). But it just so happens she's gorgeous!

Cats are like children, you can appreciate other people's but secretly you know yours is better looking & smarter.
