Advocate - do we need to see the vet?

I got halfway through a really lengthy explanation and realised that my question doesn't need it really.

Frontline doesn't seem to be working on our boys, and the vet thinks one of them has a flea allergy, so I did a Google search and people seem to recommend Advocate. I tried to buy it through a site, but it asked for prescription details

Do I need to go back to the vet for a prescription before I can get this for him? As they have seen him twice and given him injections which cleared it up, would they issue a prescription over the 'phone?

I would need to get it for both of them and the vet hasn't seen the other one (we adopted him 3 months ago) so would he need to see him? He (new cat) gets really nervous and had to be sedated to be brought to our house when he moved in, so this would be quite traumatic for him.

The vet will usually write a prescription over the phone if they've seen the animal recently, it's a legal requirement.

So they would want to see the rescue one too.

He's not come to us as a rescue, sorry, that maybe was one of the bits of information I should have included! We adopted him when our friends emigrated - he was a rescue, now he's an old man and it was hard for him to travel 30 mins to our house, never mind 24 hours on a plane!

He was with a vet near them - would they write a prescription for him even though he's changed slaves owners now, and he seems to be fine with the Frontline?

It's worth asking them yes, I paid £8ish for our last prescription but that was for 6 months supply.

I'll get his file out when I get home and try calling them (yes, he has a file. He's gone from being a very spoiled only child to only slightly spoiled, and the much put-upon big brother of a brat with fleas )

Is that as good as Advocate?

Advocate has an extra ingredient over Advantage which means it treats the environment as well as live fleas. It also kills roundworms Advantage does not.

Thank you - I'm going to speak to the vets. I probably don't vacuum as thoroughly as I should so think that's the way forwards.
