Daft things you do for your cat

I have two cats, both of whom are quite clingy. My girl follows me into the bathroom and looks expectantly up at the shower, where we keep the bathmat hooked over the rail. I get it down for her and she lies on it while I go to the loo. Then I put it back up after washing my hands. No bare bathroom floor for Her Highness!

I realised this morning that this is just one of many things I do to make them happy. Others include: sleeping at a right angle so as not to disturb my boy, and making DH let me out his side of the bed for the same reason. I let the cats play with my expensive headphones and chargers even though they ruin them. I have spoiled the look of my living room and bedroom with multiple scratching posts, radiator slings, toy boxes and cat beds in inconvenient places. I go to bed early so my girl can lie on me and purr. I let my boy keep his horrible stinky teddy bear on the bed. And I let them drink out of an old-fashioned tankard pint glass by the airing cupboard as they won't drink out of a bowl, or anywhere else!

What silly things do you do for yor cats?

For about twenty minutes every day I have to stand at the foot of the stairs and throw this little rattly ball up to the top for them to pounce on and knock back down to my feet.

Due to having no central heating I've been doing them each a hot water bottle and slipping it under their blankets.

Sometimes the little tortie girl jumps on top of a door and decides she can't get down, so meows piteously. They're tall doors and even though I know damn well she's fine, I take one of my big sofa cushions and hold it up to her so she can leap down onto it.

I too spend considerable time in the morning tossing toys up the stairs for my two boys to chase. I also spend a lot of time turning taps on and off so they can have a drink of water, their water bowl is totally ignored. I don't just turn the taps on either, it has to done with care so the water flow is just right !

Oh yes, the toys! We have to walk around with a ball on a string dragging behind us from room to room. If we stop or look at the cats then the game is apparently ruined {hmm}

I used to have a cat who drank from the tap too!

I also am always turning on taps, when i go to clean my teeth before bed on of my cats follows me and jumps in the bath to wait for tap to be turned on. The other one loves bits of screwed up paper thrown so they bounce of the front door, my hall has collection of paper balls all over it, he will fetch them if he is the mood. Neither of them will play with the large collection of toys they have, only paper and bits of string.

I play hide and seek with my boy, turn on taps at his request, sleep at funny angels in bed.. He also only drinks from a glass.

Have a round shaped rug in front of the fire and rotate her at regular intervals so she doesn't have to move!

I can only stroke my cat when she is in particular places in the house, otherwise she doesn't like it. I have to turn on the bath tap for them to drink/stare at. If I go to the loo it is expected that this means I stroke any passing cats. If I'm in bed I have to put my knees up under the duvet to create a tunnel for cats to sleep under. If I don't, they stand there headbutting the duvet until I let them in. I leave at least one cardboard box lying around at any time for the cats to play in.

I am a human stairlift for my old lady, who has spinal arthritis. I'm not a complete pushover - I don't take her up the stairs, only down, and she shows her approval by purring. I can also be found offering her up onto the windowsill or my bed till she selects which she wants to be on.

Aww these are all lovely. I especially at rotating the cat on the rug!!

Temp my cats are three-legged so I too spend a lot of time lifting and carrying! I encourage them to do as much as they can to keep the muscles strong but I give in more often than I should. Your old lady sounds like she is very lucky to have you.

Getting up at stupid o'clock to feed them. It's a terrible habit that I and them must get out of!

Going to bed early and watching tv in bed to cuddle our 20 year old cat who comes into the living room at around 9pm with her demanding 'will you come to bed please!' meow.

Sleeping in crunched up stupid positions so the two cats can stretch out how they choose on my bed. DH gets pushed about but I work round the cats.

Very very occasionally when I were a lass, our cat would deign to sleep on my bed. She did the sleeping, I did the lying rigid and unmoving so that she wouldn't get off again.

I was trained from birth in cat rules: if the cat's on your lap, you don't have to do anything.

Lovibgt these. I'm guilty of most.Rightsaid we were all in that bad habit so we bought our mog a timer feeder set for 5 am. However she now wakes us up by very noisily trying to break into it. So I still end up getting up to manually open it anywhere between 3 and 5 am

I also play fetch with her during the night. She nudges my hand with her manky furry mouse. I throw it wherever and she returns it ad infinitum

Then I get up for work at 7am.

Mine has a glass because she won't drink out of a bowl. Well she will, but only one I have put out for the local stray which has been filled with leaves, rainwater and possibly a frog.

I too go to bed early so she can sit on me to go to sleep. I also sleep with my bedroom window open so she can come and go as she pleases.

stupid owner

I occasionally run Douglas a warm bath - Being half maine coon he loves water and likes to play in the water. He gets in with DS3 sometimes too which DS thinks is hilarious. I also sleep in an uncomfortable position because one of the girls likes to sleep on my legs all night. We also still have a dog crate in the living room - Douglas went in one at night when he was a kitten before he was allowed out and still prefers to eat in there so it's stayed even though he is now almost 16 months and has been going out at night for months!.

Our cat sits in the bottom of the shower looking up and squeaking. This means she wants me to turn the hand shower on to wet the floor so she can have a drink!

Mine have a water fountain. They didn't like the water bowl, I wasn't in during the day to turn on the taps, and a fountain gives them ample opportunity for poking the bubbling water (and leaving damp little cat footprints all over the house)

10pm is cathugs time. Whatever we're doing, we have to stop doing it so they can have their evening snuggles.

I would love to study on my desk, spreading out my books... but most of the time my desk is half covered in a ginger furry lump so I end up with the books on my lap and on the floor. If I do find some space for books on the desk then he lies on them.

Oh, and two of them love to drink out of the shower so they come into the bathroom when you're in there and you have to pour water on the shower floor for them.

I let the water run in the kitchen sink for a bit so girlcat can play with it. She loves nothing more than sticking her head under the kitchen tap and soaking herself in it for some reason!

I got a bouncy ball for boycat and spend at least twenty minutes a day chucking it up and down the hallway so he can go manic and chase it everywhere.

I also sit/sleep around the cats. And I have to let my ginger boy into the bathroom when I go in, even if it's just to wash my hands, otherwise he yowls and scratches outside the door because he "misses his human".

My ginger boy also has to come into the bathroom\toilet with me every time I go, and likes nothing better than sitting on my lap purring loudly ! Of course I have to let him have at least a 5 minutes sit down/snuggle, so I now have a book in both bathroom and downstairs toilet to read. If I shut the door he'll scratch and pull up the carpet while protesting loudly.
