Are torties really big characters?

Or is it just a myth? I had a tortie and she was incredibly spirited and very clever. The whole neighbourhood knew her. People keep referring to torties on here as being rather larger than life. Just wondering what is in it.

i've had two. One was very spirited, the other was a very bright cat's cat that you wouldn't notice really.

I've got one and she's loopy! She's 10 months old and is chatty, friendly, likes to sleep on you as close to your head as possible!
She's always involved with everything, and follows us around like a little dog! I love her lots :)

My old lady tortie is very vocal and loving. She would let me carry her around all day if I wanted to. She used to come with me when I took the dog for a walk. She is certainly her own cat so it probably is true for her

Mine is! She's so lively and enthusiastic but so, so loving, too. If I sit down for two seconds she has to be on me or near me. She sleeps under the duvet with me. She's like a little dark shadow and I bloody love her!

Yes they are very spirited. Quite active.

I have a calico cat - she's very sociable and friendly but also likes her own space ! She's a real character I think but as she's my one and only I can't compare

Same lovely stories. Mine was very loyal (and possessive) too and she put off any other cat that I tried to make friends with. I couldn't even stroke another cat in the street without her getting cross.

i find that the lighter chintz torties (lighter ones) we see at the rescue are the savvy ones with big characters and the darker torties are usually sweeties

I have a darker tortie, I think "feisty" would be the best way to describe her. I have to keep her shut in when the postie does his rounds because she is inclined to go for them. And not in a good way.

I currently have two - a dark, mottled tortie and a calico tortie, and they couldn't be more different. The darker one is the eldest of my current trio of cats and the calico is the youngest. (All 3 cats are female, the middle one is a fluffy ginger and white and is the most amiable cat I've ever had - loves both her cat 'sisters' and the dog and all people)

The dark tortie is the most timid thing I have ever met - she's bullied by the calico, and is only really happy when she has the house to herself and the calico is outside. She's prone to anxiety when she's sharing the house. The calico, on the other hand, is lovely but bullish, and will pick a fight with either of the other two (although she'll curl up happily with the ginger) and can be a bit unpredictable; going from fussy to nervy at the drop of a hat.

Of my three, the only remotely sane one is the ginger one - the two torties are all kinds of crazy!

I've a rescue Tortie who is very feisty, very confident with my 3 and 5 year old kids and the total boss of our tabby who is twice her size.

She is territorial, guards the garden fiercely and sees off other cats with a lot if swearing. Adores sleeping on me at all possible occasions day and night.

She is a dark Tortie and clever. I put her treats in high places and she works out how to get to them and watches you sharply whatever you are doing, she usually follows me round the house to see what I am up to.

lovethesea she sounds like my late tortie. Also, my ginger and white girl is the softest, chilled out cat that I have ever met. She is daft!
