Vomiting cat - does she need to see the vet?

Cat has been sick a few times over the last few days - she is just bringing up very small amounts of liquid. She is sick from time to time but usually only if she's eaten something dodgy outside - this is different.

I was poised to call the vet this morning but it seemed to have stopped but she's just done it again. Conscious it's now the weekend so not sure what to do. I think the vet is open in the morning but not sure if we'd be able to get an appointment.

I think I would try. The occasional sick just happens but vomiting like that should be looked into.

How old is she and how has her health been? And is she eating/drinking and evacuating normally?

Thanks cozie She's about 15 so not a spring chicken! Ordinarily she is very well - I have never had to takn her to the vet outside of routine checkups. She hasn't eaten much food today although I think she is drinking. Not sure about the other end as she doesn't use a litter tray.

Yes, take her in tomorrow if you can. Ask for advice if they don't have any appointments available.

Thanks for the advice. Vet has checked her over and she's fine apart from the vomiting. Has given an injection and antibs for us to give at home. Fingers crossed it does the trick!

Glad she's been (more or less) given the all clear from the vet. What injection did she give her?

Oh I got that wrong. Injection was antibiotics, the stuff to give at home is like diarolyte for cats by the look of it.

She is sleeping by the spare room radiator, tried to tempt her with some tuna (at vet's suggestion) but she's not interested, which is unheard of (little bit worrying)

Maybe the jab made her feel a bit eurgh... she may brighten up.

Well she's not been sick today, which is good. But she's not eaten anything either, despite me trying to tempt her with tuna and chicken. She has drunk a little water but doesn't seem to be grooming herself. It's been tricky getting the stuff from the vet into her (she hates being given any medicine) - it's quite gloopy - and she dribbled some down her chin. I left it thinking she would clean herself up and it was still there when it came to the next dose. I've cleaned it up for her with an old damp facecloth, she was quite docile about it

Does this sound normal for a cat recovering from a tummy upset? She has literally never been ill before so I have no idea.

They can take a day or two to recover from a tummy upset but I think I'd still be feeling edgy at her seeming lassitude. (Although at least she's drunk something.) Maybe give the vet a phone tomorrow morning and see if they recommend if they want to see her again?

Has she evacuated at all? You may have to get a tray as she's under the weather and may not want to go outside.

Take her back to the vet, cats lose condition very quickly and she may need to be rehydrated on a drip. Not to scare you but one of ours was like this and it was acute kidney failure, she pulled through but only after being hospitalised.

Back to the vet this morning (didn't go yesterday as she seemed much brighter but then she was sick again last night) and they have kept her in to put her on a drip and run some blood tests.

The vet did say she'd seen cats present like this and then recover very quickly and others where it was very serious, so we won't know until they explore some more.

I feel quite tearful.

I'm glad they're finally doing some bloods but perhaps I'm just used to my own vet who likes to know what's going on inside - if Seniorboy permits a sample to be taken.

Did she give you any indication of what she thinks might be wrong?

what I do if cat is sick (vomiting) is chicken and rice until they can tolerate normal food.
