Why is my cat hungry all the time?

I have a 6yo ginger tom who usually eats a normal amount of food - wet food in the morning, crunchies available throughout the day and a cat stick at tea time.

Over the past week, he is constantly up on the worktop trying to steal any kind of food or jumping on my knee when I'm having a snack. The final straw came last night when he stole and ate 2 chicken breasts I'd left out to defrost. He has never stolen any food before and I was quite confident leaving stuff out cos I knew he wouldn't touch it.

My immediate thought was worms - would that be a possibility or any other suggestions?
