My sweet little cat has gone missing.

It's so out of character, he never wanders far and usually is in and out every 5 minutes. We don't have a cat flap, so he meows at the door to come in/go out. He last went out at 7am and hasn't come back. I'm sick with worry and have had to take the day off work to be here to let him in, if he comes back. We keep him and his brother in during the day when at work. His brother is wandering around the house 'looking' for him. I've walked round and round the neighbourhood calling him and rattling treats. He's only 10 months old and was a very ill kitten when we first got him. He's so special to us, I'm almost in tears thinking something awful has happened to him. He is microchipped, but hasn't got his collar on, which has my mobile number on. I could kick myself for not putting it on him this morning.

I know it's always so worrying, but it's only been a few hours. He's probably decided to have a bit of an explore now that he's becoming more confident with going out. Or if it's raining like it is here perhaps he's just sheltering somewhere till it stops.

And don't worry about the collar. Really a chip is all you need.

lbab1702 · 29/01/2014 12:37

Thanks for the message. I know a few hours isn't long and i'm probably worrying about nothing but he's never been gone for more than 1/2 hour at the most without checking in. And rain usually sends him straight home. He's a bit of an odd cat, having been very poorly as a kitten and suffered some neurological problems which has let him with a head tilt and odd balance. He's also unafraid of cars and people. He's been known to jump into a car if a door's been left open, and isn't shy to walk into someone's house. So I guess either of these senarios is a possiblity. I just hope if someone has him they'll think to take him to a vet to check for a chip. Do you think non cat people know to do that ? That's why I'm cross with myself for not putting his collar on. Someone might be more likely to ring or text if they had him.

Yes everyone knows about checking for chips. I'm sure he'll be home soon

ozymandiusking · 29/01/2014 13:52

Just to say,I'm thinking about you and your little one

lookdeepintotheparka · 29/01/2014 14:01

My 10 month old kitten went out for a 4hr stretch for the first time a few weeks ago. I was beside myself so I do know how worrying it is when they are usually in and out every 5 mins- especially with your added worries about him. It is most likely he's just got involved in chasing some birds or something. I really hope he's back soon. He sounds like a little sweetie Smile

lbab1702 · 29/01/2014 14:16

Ah, thank you for your messages. He's still not back. Perhaps when people start getting home from work he might appear, if he's got locked in anywhere. He is a real character and I love him to bits. I keep imagining I can hear his (very distinctive) meow at the door.

Any sign of him yet lbab?

lbab1702 · 29/01/2014 22:01

Sadly not. He's never been out at night before. I won't be sleeping tonight.
I have a poster ready to print out tomorrow and my cat lover neighbour has offered to go round the neighbourhood tomorrow evening
after work with me.

Sorry to hear that. Lots of publicity sounds good, and ring the local vets/cat rescues in case anyone finds him & takes him there. Fingers crossed.

lookdeepintotheparka · 29/01/2014 22:39

Sad to hear he's still not back. Hope he makes his way home very soon..

lbab1702 · 29/01/2014 22:54

I'm so worried about him, I haven't stopped crying since DD went to bed at 9. I have a gut feeling that it won't be a good outcome. He is a bit of a special needs cat and not streetwise. His brother has become strangely not bothered that he's not here, which is very odd. And yet I still expect to hear his very distinctive meow at the door :(

Have you checked the whole house? He may have sneaked back in when you have been going out to shout him and the door was open.

lbab1702 · 30/01/2014 03:42

He's back at 3.30am! I slept downstairs just incase, so I could hear his meow at the door. He's soaking wet and very hungry. I wonder where he's been. We're all now snugged up in bed. Thank you to everyone for their help yesterday .

That is so wonderful. I am very pleased for you, and I know exactly how you feel. There is no better sound than that one special meow of the missing darling puss!

ozymandiusking · 30/01/2014 13:04

Thank God he's back. I know just how you feel, I wouldn't have been able to sleep either.

thecatneuterer · 30/01/2014 13:19

I'm so pleased for you. I wonder where he's been.

lookdeepintotheparka · 30/01/2014 14:12

Aww so glad he's back safe Smile

Madratlady · 30/01/2014 14:31

I bet he got shut in somewhere! I'm so glad to hear that he got home safely.
