Cat Cuddler :o

Contacted my local animal charity to offer up a couple of hours of my time each week thinking they'd want me to do admin or help out in the shop but instead they asked me to do this to socialise the cats at the rehoming centre.

I can't bloody wait, first shift on Saturday!

Any tips?

(I have a cat but she has veen a softy softy cuddler since she was a kit)

How wonderful for you. Have a great time and the kitties will really appreciate it.

tips ask in the office about the cats before you go into the pens what their quirks are
we have one at the moment who loves people is great while you are fussing him but then gets over stimulated and bites, also you have to back out of his pen as he hates been left alone and will go in for the grab,

the really shy cats slow movements and slowly putting your hand nearer to the cat while watching their body language and slowly get forefinger under their chin and gentle chin scritches always seem to go down well

basically the center will know their cats and will give you loads of advice as to what approach for each individual cat

Ooohh sounds cracking! [Envy]

anyone saying they envy op everyone can offer to work as a volunteer at a cat center we have people like me who will do everything from cleaning the pens to showing people round to people who come in just to give the cats some attention (and too many dreamies lol) fostering is also very rewarding if you can hand mom and kits back after their holiday with you,

the smaller independent rescues are great to work for as being smaller makes for a friendly bunch

I can't wait issey!

I am planning on taking some dreamies in with me :)

I have a little bit of experience with a temperamental cat - I took in a neighbour's oldie (when neighbour died) having had no experience with cats ...she would love strokes up until she'd decided she'd had enough then go ninja on me!! I still used to risk it every time cos I loved her :o but chin strokes were always safer!

I will offer to muck in with cleaning etc - don't want all the sugar and none of the sh*te.

I will report back after Saturday :)

Did a two hour shift today. Twas great :D

Got a nasty scratch off a young Tom straight after I'd given him some dreamies - ungrateful little b*gger :o

A few of the cats are adorable - very loving and sweet. Quite a few timid ones who probably need the most attention. No kittens at the mo :(

I'm going to pop over tomorrow for an hour with my niece :)

I think I'm going to enjoy being a cat cuddler!

Well he's not going to get more dreamies doing that to you is he?

I'm glad you enjoyed it though, the shy ones will hopefully come round & be rehomed.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 01/02/2014 23:16

ahh sounds lovely - apart from the scratch

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 02/02/2014 11:54

I was sitting here thinking jealous thoughts, OP, when I realised there's actually a cattery 200 yards from my house! [thick emoticon]
I'm just emailing them now!

patienceisvirtuous · 02/02/2014 14:00

Jon, that's great. I bet they'll jump at the chance of another pair if hands!!
