New litter tray? Tactics?

Just got a new covered litter tray for my girl to try to reduce some of the litter that end up all over the place (curver rattan one) my girl has used an open standard try since we got her in nov and never had a problem, how do I encourage her to use the new one? I currently have them side by side and have put her usual litter in the new one, but the new one has a cat flap door which I am not sure she had ever used before (she is a rescue)

Hoping to avoid any accidents!

Not used one before (my boys like the open trays) but why not tape open the door for a few days and see if curiosity gets the better of her. (Once she's used it a time or two, you could let the flap down.)

I'd also put a small amount of litter from the other tray in the new one. It will have a faint smell of 'place' to her sensitive nose.

Other posters will likely have more suggestions though.

Good Idea taping the door, thanks, was hoping curiosity would get the better of her, have popped some of the litter in from other tray, guess its just a waiting game really!

You could force her hand by taking away the other tray although personally I wouldn't. (I wouldn't want a cat to get negative feelings about their 'place'.) Maybe see how it goes for a few days, checking regularly.

When we got our kittens we started them off with the litter tray without the lid on ( which is what they were used to from their previous home ). After a couple of days we added the lid but with the door taped up. After another couple of days we untaped the door and 'helped' push it open when they needed to use the tray. They soon got the hang of it.
