Cat litter

Can anyone recommend me a fairly cheap cat litter that works well? Previously we have been using the performance clumping one from Pets at Home but although it works really well it is a bit pricey for us at the moment. Currently trying the Aldi one but not impressed. Any suggestions?

Well that's why I figured the stuff from Aldi would be ok. I'm pregnant so DH is in charge of cleaning them out and it doesn't happen as often as I would like tbh.

We use Bob Martin which is about £6.00 for 20litres from ASDA. I think that's quite cheap and it contains the odour reducing crystals which seem quite effective. I've definitely noticed less of a pong since switching from a more expensive brand.

I have to go with that which Seniorboy likes and his preference is for Sainsbury's or Coop Natural Earth Clumping, both of which are reasonably priced - although litter has risen in price over the last year, certainly.

We've got a big bad of LIDL for emergencies (and it is surely cheap as chips) but I've found it doesn't clump as well as the others - and it's a bit rougher in texture so Seniorboy doesn't like it quite as much when he's covering.

The problem we are having with the cheap Aldi stuff is that it doesn't clump as well and tends to fall apart. The pieces are a lot bulkier than my cats are used to from the other stuff. It also seems to not hold the smell as well.

Sounds like the LIDL stuff. In my experience, cat litter is something you shouldn't exercise excessive economies on - if they don't like it, you could get 'accidental-on-purposes' and also a good clumping litter is actually reasonably economical because you can simply remove the clumps and top up - a litter that doesn't clump as well has to be replaced wholesale more often.

I just looked up the Pets at Home litter and that is expensive. The Sainsbury's one is £2.69 for the same volume. If you have a Sainsbury's or Co-op near you, I'd try either of theirs as an experiment on Seniorboy's recommendation. (And he's a fusspot.)

Just be careful what you buy if you go to either of those. The Sainsbury one is a deep turquoise/midnight blue bag with a white and tabby cat on it and the Co-op (last time I used it) was in a deep purple and blue bag. Both labelled as Natural Earth Clumping litter.

I'd stick with what they like, mine sprayed everywhere tonight because I'm trying to switch him from sophisticat gold to catsan ultra clumping.

I've been thinking (no laughing please) and you could try using chick crumb.

It's crushed up maize, clumps well, no odours & is flushable. If you google black farm gate animal feeds you might love nearer than you realise to a stockist.

It was £9 for 20kg last time I bought some.

I've just converted to Professional Classic cat litter from zooplus. It isn't the cheapest to purchase initially, but I'm so impressed with it, my litter trays are still immaculate after a week and I've hardly thrown any away, so I'm certain it will work out more economical in the long run . It smells of baby powder, soaks up every last bit of wee and is so easy to clean out. I have five cats and tried most litters. There is a video of cat litter comparisons on you tube by a user called mrpaulnestor, which is where I found out about it.
