My lovely Ragdoll is 13 1/2 yrs, on Monday he was due to have an operation on his sinuses. The pre op blood tests (Monday morning) showed he was in renal failure. He has been at vets on drip ever since.

Have had an older cats with renal failure in the past and it signalled the end of the road :-(

I'm very worried that I'm going to lose my lovely furry friend. However despite it all he is still bright, heathy looking and demanding food and cuddles from the vet nurse. Won't know all the details till tomorrow when blood tests come back. But I'm wondering if anyone has had older cat that manages a happy, painful free life for sometime after renal failure. Or is this really the end?

It really depends what IRIS stage the renal failure is at, but many cats live several years with renal failure on appropriate medication.

Turns out he is only stage 2 so vet is hopeful he can be treated with diet and meds :-)
