Cats and rabbits?

I'm thinking of adding a pair of baby rabbits to my household...my boys are animal lovers and its a decision between rabbits or a tortoise.... Are cats a threat to rabbits or is that just foxes? Any advice gratefully received!

I know on that recent documentary on BBC2 that followed a village full of cats, a few of them made a bit of a habit of killing rabbits.

Then again I know of a few households where cats and house rabbits live peacefully together.

Probably if you were to adopt a largish adult rabbit, rather than getting babies, they might be safer. I'm only guessing though.

My cat brings me baby rabbits each year.

Whereas a huge rabbit I lived next door to as a child used to chase off any cats in the area easily. It was huge. And fierce.

My friend adopted two 1 yr old rabbits...one of her cats is quite a voracious hunter, but hasn't done anything other than generally mooch about near them - she's had them a while now and they quite happily all share the garden and everything.

To be fair the rabbits are the same size as the cats, lol

I'd get adult ones tbh, my cat brings in baby rabbits too.

Hmm ok so adult rabbits better than baby ones.... Now I need to get my head around making things fox proof! The tortoise option might prove easier! Thanks for your replies Smile
