Had my tie cats spayed/neutered today - need some advice

They have been home a couple of hours and seem ok so far. I have another cat that usually gets on well with the other two but since they have come home, she is hissing and growling at them like she doesn't recognise them. I'm assuming it's because they smell differently as they were gone only about 12 hours. Is this something I should be worrying about?

Also, my little boy has eaten since coming home he's always been a greedy so and so but my girl has not shown any interest in food yet. She is hiding away, I feel so sorry for her Sad. Her second eyelid is also showing but I'm assuming this is because she's a bit groggy?

The vets have been good and said I can call with any worries no matter how trivial but I thought I'd check here first.

Please ignore the word 'tie' in the title - phone has a mind of its own Hmm.

I'd let it go through until at least tomorrow morning as they've only been back a couple of hours. They'll still smell odd and will likely have subtle differences in reactions and body language which are disturbing your other cat.

And don't worry about the eating. Different cats react in different ways to GAs - and the boy's snip would have been a smaller procedure anyway.

I'd let them all get a sleep under their belts. Maybe just keep the other cat from going too close to them while they recover.

Thanks for the advice cosie.

They're both eating now but the other cat is still keeping her distance.

Is she hissing and growling still?

(Good news that they're both eating.)

How are things this morning?

MilkOneSugar · 21/11/2013 17:17

Sorry cosie, just seen this.

She was still hissing and growling last night and this morning but I had to go out for an hour this morning and things seem a little calmer when I returned. Not completely back to normal though as she's still keeping her distance a bit.

I've been amazed at how quickly they've bounced back Grin. Honey's scar is very neat which I'm pleased about. The vets used the long line on the stomach method rather than flank. I've seen pictures of that type before and they've look a right mess so it's good that hers looks clean and neat. I caught Oscar cleaning himself and I thought his stitches had opened but it was just his penis poking out Blush. I was ready to panic until I realised.

I separated them last night though as they're being very playful biting each other so I had visions of waking up to a bloody mess and poorly cats. So all seems fine all in all.

Thank you for your advice, I worry about the DCats as much as the DC.
