we have a flea problem and have finally decided enough is enough and have the professionals coming in on Tuesday. Can anyone tell me what they do and what they will treat. I have been instructed to hoover the house in the morning and then they will come in the afternoon, treat the house whist we are out. Apparantly i cant then hoover for 2 weeks, is this right??? and how will i manage that with 2 children under 2.5yrs and a cat!

Hoover thoroughly, pick up anything from the floor that doesn't need to be there, leave out cat bed/blanket if it has one.
They should spray all flooring and, if you ask them, any heavy curtains.
As for not hoovering for two weeks that is quite important as it ensures the treatment sticks around to kill off the next hatching of fleas. If the carpet starts to look really yucky you could give it a brush instead.
Remember to lock the cat out, don't leave food bowls or water down it will get contaminated, tightly cover fish tanks, remove other small pets from property.

thank you mogz. Is it guaranteed to work if i follow their advice. The cat is due to be retreated with a spot-on treatment Tuesday morning which is why its Tuesday.

I don't think they can guarantee 100% because the little buggers can hide everywhere, but if you get yourself some spray from pets at home or the like and give things a quick spritz in a few weeks and in the mean time wash all bedding, towels and blankets the cat could have laid on recently on a hot wash I would think you will be fine.
Fleas are such a bloody nuisance but in the last 10 years of having cats I've only had to have the house fumigated 2ce, and the second time was because I let in a stray who was riddled with the things. I use spot on treatments (advantage seems to work best) all year and the household spray in the summer or if they have bought in a rodent/bird.
Hope it sorts your problem, must be extra nasty with young DC about.
