Do cats like blankets?

I've started putting a light fleece blanket over our girl when she's looking cold (i.e. sleeping curled up in a tight ball). Does she not move because she likes it or because she can't be faffed?

I reckon you'd know if she didn't like it!! Smile

I bought my kitty 2 lovely soft cat blankets but she's decided she prefers my old throw so has now claimed it as her own.

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 17:42

So the lack of getting out from under the blanket is because she likes/doesn't mind it rather than just laziness then? She does look all cute and comfy under her blanket - she's in the nice relaxed sleep pose rather than the trying to put her head up her bum pose. I just never know if I should put the blanket back over her when she does the get up, walk in a circle and lie back down thing.

My cat loves a fleecey blanket, but she normally sits on top. She does sometimes crawl underneath.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 08/11/2013 17:50

One of my cats loves being covered up (except for when dgs then sits on him, but he's pretty chilled about that) and the other, a much nervier animal, hated it when she first came to live with us, but tolerates it now.

dingit · 08/11/2013 17:52

My cat sleeps in our bed when its cold. Under our duvet Smile

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 17:52

Well she's just done the standing up and rearranging thing, I put the blanket back over her and she seems perfectly content. That'll teach me to listen to DP - he's trying to convince me that I'm torturing the poor girl with my blanket draping. She sleeps on top of a feather duvet - we spoil her to death.

And now she's stood up and nosed her way entirely under the blanket. I think it's safe to say she likes it :)

Ah, my Megatron buries herself under her fleece. And picnic blankets on the lawn. And plastic bags, wrapping paper and the hall runner.

Optimus just lies on his.

Cats are great Smile

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 18:44

Megatron and Optimus are awesome names! Are they purrbots in disguise?

Boy cat loves to be under stuff, he likes to be covered by a blanket. Girl cat doesn't, she gets up and moves if I put a blanket over her. I've never met a cat yet who puts up with things if tjey aren't how they want them so I reckon your cat likes snuggling under her blanket.

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 19:35

She wouldn't sleep under the duvet with us but she does like coming in to investigate if we lift it up to make a cave.

Mine likes a duvet over him too. He has a medium sized dog bed now but when it gets chilly he will have a fleece blanket over it so he doesn't get chilly.

I pre-warm it with a hot water bottle.

cozietoesie · 08/11/2013 21:18

.....I've never met a cat yet who puts up with things if tjey aren't how they want them.....

As Madratlady said. If she didn't like it she'd soon let you know.

catameringue · 09/11/2013 00:25

I've got into a ridiculous routine whereby all three cats expect me to use my legs under the duvet to make a tent. Each morning they take it in turns to sit in this tent, sprawled over me until they have warmed up then off they go. Every morning I feel used!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2013 07:34

Three furry dictators in your house then? Just be glad you don't have big dogs.

QueenStromba · 11/11/2013 11:01

She's sitting next to me on the sofa looking very comfy wrapped in her blanket. Thank you all for allaying my fears that I was torturing her with the blanket.

I'm glad I started this thread - now I know that it's a good idea to put the blanket back over her when she moves. She looks so cute I could eat her up at the moment - just a cat head in a pile of blanket.

I've added a picture of Rice wrapped up in her blanket to my profile - she looks so cute and snug.

You've nailed it Nancy - Rice is ambivalent about her cat tree but she loves investigating and scratching everything else.

catameringue · 11/11/2013 12:51

So true.

Bought a hooded cat bed 18 months ago. They've finally started using it.

Rice looks very warm and snuggly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/11/2013 12:56

My cat always sleeps in his bed.

QueenStromba · 11/11/2013 13:55

My cat always sleeps in the most awkward place possible - generally half way up the bed so that she manages to hog half of the king size bed. She also likes to curl up between my legs so that I can't turn over in my sleep and wake up.
