Getting a cat?

We've previously had a cat (came with our first house!) and loved it.

Now thinking we'd like another one as we're settled for the foreseeable future.

We have guinea pigs but they have a secure cage/run and also a house rabbit - who is about the size of a cat!

How/where/who would be good to contact? We're happy to take an older cat/rescue if they can cope with our small furries. But not sure if a kitten would be better to acclimatise?

In Glasgow, if anyone local knows?

Thanks!

I wouldn't have a cat with a house rabbit unless you want to spend your life trying to keep them separated. A cat is well capable of killing a rabbit.

Depends on both the rabbit and the cat, I think, Jack. I've known plenty of big bucks who could (and did) see off dogs. (Gave them a back leg thump if they were getting uppity.)

I second that Jumping ! It wouldn't be fair on the rabbit and it wouldn't end well.
I miss my house rabbit, he was such a friendly boy. A bit like a dog really. I've got four cats now so definitely won't be getting another rabbit, it wouldn't last 2 minutes Grin

Thanks. Might have to rethink the cat then, as Speedy the rabbit is very much part of the family!

From experience it can work out. I had a house rabbit for 18 months before I had my male (and introduced a female later on too). Rabbit was very territorial to begin with. However, within 2 months they'd settled in to a routine. They slept next to each other, shared a water bowl and generally became quite close.

It doesn't always work out but it can. It may be worth reading the house rabbit society as they could help with introductions and there are quite a few stories on there of rabbits and cats getting on.

I had a house bunny and he was a big boy! We got a kitten (well she was dumped on my doorstep) and Teeper Babbitt kept humping the poor cat.

Teeper had to have his knackers....knackered!

They lived together for another two years before Teeper went to the great hutch in the sky...cat lived until she was 18 and died 8 weeks ago .
