Bit of advice for a friend please

A friend of mine phoned me up last night asking for a bit of advice on her 18-year-old cat. She said he has started howling like a dog at nights (friend said she was terrified at one point because she was awoken and thought it actually was a dog!) and he's also taken to peeing behind the TV and on freshly washed towels.

I told her I think it could possibly be cat dementia and all due to his relatively older age. But I also said I'd ask you all on the forum too as you always give valuable information and help.

It might well be something like that - but what are her current toileting arrangements for him? And has he been seen by a vet recently?

He prefers going outside as far as I'm aware Cozie. I know she has two trays (one for poo and one for pee) so he's got somewhere to go. Again, I did advise her to pop to the vet because no amount of advice from anyone is enough if your really worried.

Indeed. I'd advise her to take him to the vet if only just for a check over given his age. I think she needs to have broad physical issues looked at/ruled out before considering other things.
