wobbly cat

Hi
My lovely big tabby boy has recently lost a lot of weight, despite eating lots, he has also lost some control of his back legs, he goes wobbly down stairs and round corners

He also seems to forget us from time to time or his normally soppy personality changes

Vet didn't find any obvious reason but we go back on Thursday for blood tests

Any one any experience of anything like this. My gut feeling is it isn't going to end well :(

It doesn't sound great, does it? Sad How old is he gordys ? (I'm wondering whether he could have had a little stroke or something.)

gordyslovesheep · 28/10/2013 13:00

He's only six . Vet didn't seem to think it was an emergency situation but he's got worse

My cat did similar and was diagnosed with diabetes. Is he weeing lots?

cozietoesie · 28/10/2013 13:11

Only a young cat then. It was that weight loss that concerned me.

Gordys

If he's got worse, why not phone the vet and get him in before Thursday? They might have a slot later today.

gordyslovesheep · 28/10/2013 14:05

I was wondering about diabetes . He has done a few big wees on the floor by the littler tray which is unlike him. He is happy enough in himself but is seeking food all the time which he doesn't normally. Can't take him before Thursday due to work, although if he did massively deteriorate I would.

I'm on my phone at work so can't respond as much as I'd like but I appreciate the responses x thank you

I'd try, gordys. Or is there a friend or relative that can take him on your behalf and maybe liaise with you surgery by phone if any decisions have to be made?

cozietoesie · 28/10/2013 14:09

at the surgery.

No problem - work is important.

pudseypie · 28/10/2013 21:05

is he drinking lots? The signs of diabetes in my cat were wobbling when walking and jumping and drinking and weeing lots plus weight loss.

gordyslovesheep · 01/11/2013 10:55

Hi - sorry for not updating - manic - work, house moving, half term etc

Sadly we saw the vet yesterday and she is 90% sure he has a brain tumor - he can have a scan and surgery but I have opted to keep him at home until he gets too sick to cope

I feel all the intervention is too much for a poor puss and it may not work anyway

awaiting blood tests just to rule out anything else but it looks fairly bleak

He is such a lovely cat - so cuddly and daft - we are quiet sad :(

So sorry, gordys.

DidoTheDodo · 01/11/2013 13:25

So sorry to hear this about your lovely cat.

pudseypie · 01/11/2013 14:11

oh no I am so sorry. Thanks

gordyslovesheep · 01/11/2013 23:43

Thanks x All blood tests came back normal - one more to do - thyroid. Vet did say she has seen one case where the cat presented like our Billy and it was thyroid issues but she says it's unlikely - he is right next to me now snuggling up - he's a great cat - we will look after him x

OP posts:
QueenStromba · 02/11/2013 01:13

I was thinking that it sounded like hypo thyroid. I hope it is. If it's not then give him lots of cuddles for me.

QueenStromba · 02/11/2013 02:00

I meant hyper thyroid.

gordyslovesheep · 02/11/2013 20:38

So sorry gordys

gordyslovesheep · 06/11/2013 23:43

thanks all - well thyroid is normal so it is probably the worst - he is fine in himself so we will muddle along for a while

thanks for the lovely responses x

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 06/11/2013 23:51

Aw Dear. I'm sure you'll make that 'muddling along' full of love, cuddles and treats, anyway.

Let us know how he gets on.

gordyslovesheep · 20/07/2014 17:42

Hi all - I was thinking about this thread so I thought I'd do a quick update - Billy is still with us and doing well

he's still outdoorsy and enjoys bringing me mice - he is a bit odd sometimes - very cuddly of me and a little cross with the kids sometimes (he's never been before) He does like to bang his head on things and gets a lot of sneezing fits but he's gained weight and is hanging on!
