My cat is beating up my other cat!

We recently got a rescue cat, 2 years old, recently neutered by the rescue centre (met him a few times, he seemed really placid roll over tummy type of thing, seemed unconcerned about other cats in the rescue centre) but since we have got him home he has started to bully our 6 year old female resident cat, even attacking her. We feed them in separate places. He has been here about 3 weeks. We have tried Feliway and it has not helped. Can anyone give advice, thank you.

Put new cat in cat box. Feed the other treats and nice things in the same room. Reverse. Lots of stroking and treats when they are in the same room and not fighting. I'm sure someone else will be along with better ideas soon.

What feliway have you tried? You need the diffuser rather than the spray.

Our two used to fight a lot. Our vet said we should make a fuss of the more dominant one and feed him first, so he didn't feel the need to keep asserting his dominance. It seemed to work for us.

I have 2 rescue male neutered cats had them for 9 years. They wrestle a lot and leave pile of cat hair all over the place when they have a good battle.

Dominance changes back an forth, they butt each other out of the way for food.

It's generally good natured never had to take them to the vets from any damage aided by the other cat.

Coul they just be sorting out their hierarchy?

Skang, I used the diffuser. Perhaps, as another poster says, they are sorting out their hierarchy. It's distressing to see, though, and for my original cat.

I'm afraid that some cats will never get on. I have three and two tolerate each other whilst the youngest can't stand any of them and frequently ends up attacking the least dominant. The youngest has been with us for 2 years now with no sign of it easing up. Just last night he had to be put in a seperate room due to a full on cat fight.
When searching for advice though I got plenty of ideas:
seperate feeding areas,
seperate litter trays/cleaned frequently,
creating an area for each cat to feel safe (up high, or hidden under a wardrobe),
give plenty of fuss to each cat when not misbehaving,
Feliway,
always have food available etc...
but only seperating them works for us.
