The eponymous Macthecat has ongoing skin problems. he has been to vets-they give him prednisolone and antibiotics-it clears up, it comes back. he is constantly licking, scratching and biting himself so his lovely coat is now awful. it cleared up for a bit but has started again. i tried changing his diet, he hasnt got fleas. he is driving me crazy!

One of my cats was also very scabby, mainly around his lips and front legs. He had viral swabs and bloods which showed nothing. He was also flea and worm treazted religiously. Always responded to steroids and antibiotics. For the past 6 months he has been taking Atopica, which is an immuno-suppressant (Cyclosporin), with really good results. He has only had one small scab on his lip which cleared very quickly. He has been very well on the medication, and it has fewer side-effects than the steroids. A lot more expensive than the steroid treatment, but well worth it. The next step if the Atopica didn't work was going to be allergy testing, but the vet warned that alolt of cats have multiple allergies, and I really didn't want to stop him going out and playing with his brother and having fun. Also found it almost impossible to resrict his diet as they are both so fussy! HTH and good luck.
