Need a hand hold..cat being PTS tomorrow

Have talked to the vet this morning and we've agreed that there's no more that anyone can do. She`s 18, has been struggling to walk. She gave me that look as of to say that she's had enough.
So we're taking her tomorrow morning.
Just feels so hard at the moment.

She sounds like a much loved cat.

I had to say goodbye to a DCat 2 years ago and while I would have been allowed to take her home for a last night I decided to PTS there and then. It's a final gift we can give our beloved cats, to allow them to just drift off to sleep when they've had enough.

It's the right thing to do, but not the easiest thing to decide and to then say goodbye. Nothing we can say will make this day any better for you but know that I'm hoping you and DCat have a peaceful afternoon and evening with much snuggling.

I think what elfycat said is spot on, it is a final gift. My darling 20 year old cat had to be PTS a couple of years ago, and whilst it broke my heart I couldn't bear to see him so tired and in pain, and such a shadow of his former self. Hugs to you OP, I feel your pain Thanks

So very very sorry - it's such a shitty thing to have to go through. I've been there too many times. If it's any consolation, it's a lot harder for you than for your lovely girl - she will be at peace, and will appreciate the final gift you can give her. If it's not a step too far, think about what you want to happen afterwards, what is best for you - taking her home to bury, private cremation with return of ashes etc. In my experience, it is easier to decide in advance. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Jezza I am so sorry, it is such a hard decision but so important to make it at the right time rather than delaying too long - it sounds like you are doing exactly the right thing

2 weeks ago I was in exactly the same situation as you with my beautiful old girl cat (also 18 years old) - it was a difficult last evening as I felt that I wanted to be near the cat but she had had enough really and was starting to withdraw from us.

In the event the actual PTS was extremely quick, she was worn out I think and it only took a few seconds.

As Frrenchfemme has said, I had thought in advance about what I wanted done with her body (individual cremation with ashes returned to me in a wooden casket) - I was glad I'd planned this as it would have been a bit much to think about for the first time as she was about to be PTS

Thoughts for tomorrow and extra-gentle strokes for your cat tonight

So sorry. It is a hard thing to do but a kind thing - you know the time is right.

It will be difficult but eventually you will start to remember the happy times you had with her, not her last few days.

Every cat would love this - to have a long life with a loving family and a peaceful end.

Thanks all.
It all went off peacefully, she was sedated and slipped away after the second injection.
It feels so empty without a furry body snoring nearby.

RIP old girl. Gone to join her mother.
