What the hell is wrong with my cat?

Motley (age 14 - the hyperthyroid cat from my other thread) may not be hyperthyroid after all.

She's now been off the thyroid pills all together for a couple of weeks as they were making her sick. She put on 0.3 of a kilogram since she stopped them :)

She's just had her full bloodwork done again, plus a urine test - and everything is perfectly normal, including her thyroid! Her cholesterol is up very slightly, and she's only a little bit anaemic - but neither high enough to cause the weight loss or any serious problems. Kidney and liver function are absolutely fine.

The vet had a really good squeeze of all her vital organs and didn't feel anything that shouldn't be there (and she's so thin it's really easy to feel everything!)

Her appetite is fine, and she's acting like her normal self.

The vet is running the other thyroid test to double check - then she's booked in for an ultrasound on Monday.

Any ideas at all?

So the diarrhoea has stopped?

She had one runny poo the other day, not since though - we have a few cats so we can't always tell who's done what - but she tends to go in the same part of the same litter tray!

A bit of an update!

The vet just rang - and I am in no doubt at all that Motley is in the best possible hands!
She is so confused by Motley's normal blood results not matching Motley's symptoms that she rang the lab specifically to discuss it with an expert!

The other thyroid test came back that it IS overactive, and there is something suppressing the thyroxine levels making it appear normal in the basic test - so that agrees with what the old vet said. Now for the new bit - whatever is suppressing the thyroxine could also be causing weight loss in itself, and the lab can run more in-depth tests on certain hormone levels to try to pinpoint it, which I just agreed to.

Worst case scenario is some sort of growth, or it could be something like chronic pancreatitis (which is likely as she had antibiotics for that before!) - it's probably something to do with her bowel or pancreas.

So she's still having the ultrasound on Monday - plus extra blood analysis, also I am picking up some Felimazole tonight! If they make her sick too there's a gel she can have instead that's absorbed through the skin.

I like the new vet - she's very thorough! Fingers crossed she's OK on Felimazole.

Good news!

Today Motley has had an ultrasound and chest x-ray - all organs are the right size and in the right place with no extra bits!

Poo is back to normal - and she's put on a bit more weight again! :)

The new thyroid meds are staying down and seem to be working.

The vet is just waiting for the results of the more indepth blood tests, but it's looking good. It may be just something like mild IBS suppressing the thyroxine levels, and her REALLY not getting on with the old pills.
It was a bit mean of DP to say her shaved belly from the ultrasound makes her look like a chicken though..... (in earshot too, poor Motley!)

I feel like she should get an MOT certificate! :)

Am so pleased things are looking up for Motley. Maybe you should threaten to shave [a patch of] your DP's head unless he begs Motley's forgiveness & provides her with a treat of some kind

I have reassured Motley that she looks exactly like a cat, made DP give her a Dreamie, and let her eat some of the kitten's food for being brave today
