stalker cat

has anyone any experience of this?

my 5-year-old female cat seems to be being 'stalked' by a younger i think female as she's tortoiseshell cat. the other cat isn't being really aggressive - she uses quite a lot of submissive behaviour as far as i can tell - but she's always around. She gazes through the window when my cat is outside and constantly approaches her in our garden. It's driving my cat nuts - any idea what might be going on? (ps I did worry that perhaps she had been abandoned and was actually looking for another home but I don't think it's that) thanks for any help

Quite possibly the other cat just wants to make friends with yours. If you're at all concerned about her home situation you can try putting a paper collar on her with a message for her owners.

This behaviour is similar to that sometimes seen when a kitten is adopted. We took in a stray (a young kitten) a few years ago, and the elderly resident cat (13 years) took umbrage as the kitten followed her around and conducted all manner of impertinent investigations. However, they both eventually settled down and got on with it.

thank you all - that's really helpful. yes my cat loathes other cats - especially other females . i'll keep an eye and try to make sure she doesn't get too stressed. sadly other cat doesn't have a collar so i can't do the good message idea but i will keep an eye on how she is. it would be nice if they were friends but there you go

Sorry, I wasn't meaning for you to attach a note to the cat's own collar, but for you to try putting a printable paper collar on her. The one I've linked to is the RSPCA one with all the making instructions, various other animal charities have their own variations on that theme available too.

It would be nice if your cat would make friends, yes & I guess she might yet. I don't know if it'd be worth trying to get her used to strangecat's scent in a similar way to advice on introducing a new cat to a home with [an]other cat(s)?
