Hi getting a 4 mnth old kitten a week sat

Have bought a kitten book
Says to look them in a seperate room for a few days, not to let them out for a few weeks and not out at nite for ages
We hv a 13 yr old cat so already hv a cat flap in lunch

When putting her in seperate room for a few daya was thinking of downstairs loo which is big
Was going to put litter tray in there, food, ball toys and soft igloo bed
Does this sound right

Then when she is out in house will hv to watch her in lounge near catflap and then shut her in loo at night so she cant get out
Also hv 2 dds 8 and 4.5 yrs

Hopwfully i have thought of everything to buy was going to buy the following :-

Soft cat bed
Carrier
Litter tray
Food bowls
Mat

im of the book dont worry about seperating her from the adult cat 4 months is fairly big for a kitten, and though you will get some grumps from the resi cat it will be defining who is the boss, just make sure the big cat can escape if the kitten gets too much for her, during the day just put something in front of the cat flap so she cant go out or wedge it shut i wouldnt bother with a fancy cat bed a cardboard box with a blanket will be fine she will probs sleep on the sofa anyway or a mat for under the bowls as cats dont generally make a mess when they eat, and if not already neutered (as in rescue that neuters early) make an appointment for that asap as female cats can get pregnant from as early as 5 months

im sure the children will be gentle just make sure they dont get too enthusiastic chasing her around let the kitten come to them a dangly toy on a stick is a good way of kids playing with her but not getting too close till she has decided she likes them

She is very nervous
Think shutting her in for a few days makes sense
Cant block catflap otherwise other cat cant get out

She has been spayed

if shes nervous yes a seperate room to get used to the noises in your house is a good idea, give her lots of gentle hugging holds even if she dosent want them persevere , food time is a good time to do it, before you put her food down pick her up and give her a cuddle then give her the food, she will associate cuddles with food , the kittens i have at the moment as fosters were really timid a few weeks ago, and by doing this and lots of games with them and letting them slowly come to me i have managed to turn one into an attention seeking PIA and the other one will come to me for a fuss but not a lap cat

I would always keep new cat separate from old cat initially and follow international cat care's advice (sorry can't link) on how to introduce them by swapping beds etc. This ensures that the cats are not put into a defensive mode and reduces the amount of fights.
