I think my cat is gone :(

I adopted brother and sister cats who were three ten years ago. Since then we have had a house move, three babies and a puppy and the cats have accepted all of them, although they were not keen on the babies at first!

Boy cat has been missing for over two days and I think something has happened to him :( he never usually misses a meal though he is a bit of a roamer. Girl cat is very whiny and I think she misses him.

I can't explain why but I think he is dead. We live near a primary school and I found a little girl picking him up and taking him home one day, so I am hoping my friendly boy has been stolen. I'd rather think that than think he was hit by a car and crawled off alone to die.

I have registered him missing with his microchip company, and phoned round local vets and animal sanctuaries but no one has seen him. He is going bald through age, and I was clinging to the hope someone had found him and assumed he was ill so had taken him to the vet, but now I know that isn't the case I fear the worst.

Don't know what I'm posting for but will you please tell me he is just enjoying better hospitality somewhere else? That's what I want to believe.

If you stopped a little girl picking him up and carting him off - there's every possibility she's taken him and is keeping him in.

Not sure if this is of any help but about 9 years ago I had 2 lovely boy cats. We moved and the both settled but male number 2 went missing for weeks. I too thought he'd got hurt. He turned up with a collar on. So somebody had obviously kept him in somewhere. I took said collar off and he again came back with one on after being missing this time up to a month.

Put up posters - everywhere! And put leaflets through the letterboxes of the houses in your street and all adjoining streets - aim for about 300. Ask people to check their sheds and garages. He could easily have got shut in somewhere. Leafleting and posters have always worked very well for me.

Agree with Catneuterer - missing posters. Go and knock doors and ask to check. If you are able to - offer a small reward. That can often get people on the look out.

thecatneuterer · 20/09/2013 19:52

I'm not sure about rewards. It probably depends what sort of area you live in. Round me I'd be worried that it would give the young thugs the idea that if they go round kidnapping cats they might be able to extract money for their return.

TheWinterOne · 20/09/2013 19:56

Hmm actually I didn't think of that one Cat. I agree it probably does depend on the type of area you live in and people about.

Can you get a friend or partner to help with dispensing posters and leaflets. You'd cover more area quicker than if you do it alone.

Hoping for the quick and healthy return of your old boy..xx

Thank you everyone Flowers.

I will leaflet next week as don't have access to a printer and will have to nick dh' s work one.

I will also ask around, a lady in the next street used to get visits from him and checked with me that I didn't mind this, I will ask her. Also, a girl in our street knows the cat nap girl so I will ask if she can ask her for me.

I need to find out I think, even if it's bad news.

Sofa, one of my cats has been missing for 17 days. I had given up hope but got up this morning and there she was. She seems fine, so goodness knows where she has been.

So don't give up hope and I hope your puss turns up soon.

CressidaMontgomery · 22/09/2013 09:20

It's really early days so don't lose hope.

My 11 year old went missing in May, completely out of character. I still have the smallest bit of hope!

Putitonthelist · 22/09/2013 14:15

The worst thing is the not knowing Sad My cat went missing for 5 days in Feb - she was smelly, dusty, hungry and dehydrated when she came home so had obviously been locked in somewhere.

I knocked on people's doors and put posters up - I searched day and night and she just turned up on the back doorstep 5 days later.

I really hope he comes home soon x
