Weed killer safe for cats?

I thought I'd try here, rather than in Gardening.

I have neglected my garden and the weeds are taking over. I've sorted the borders and they look great now, but the lawn is awful. My colleague recommended Vergone (sp?), but it mentions it's not safe for pets until dry.

What does everyone use, if anything, that is safe for animals? My cats (and dog) do sometimes chew grass, but usually around the edges.

Please don't suggest digging up the weeds, there are far too many - more weed than lawn!! Hmm

Sorry, it's Verdone.

I think all weed killers (that actually work) say they're not safe until dry. But if you choose a warm day it should be dry in a couple of hours and I'm sure you can keep your pets in for that long.
