Sexing Kittens

We were told we'd got two boy kittens from the Cattery. However, I am certain one is a girl. There's no sign of any extra bits, so how long before I need to have them spayed?

They're twelve weeks now, we got them a fortnight ago and have waited for their jabs etc as one of them was rather small. I'm going to take them next week for jabs, but need to get organised for their ops.

Cats are usually neutered around 5-6 months, I think they do it by weight these days. Your vet can tell you more when they get their vaccinations.

If you look at them at this age you may not see much of a scrotum - boys will have more of a dot for an opening and the girls are more of a line (resisting the urge to be crude). If you have a boy and a girl you should be able to see the difference more clearly. They may girl in for neutering earlier but you can find out next week.

I can see a scrotum on the smaller one, but the other one has nothing and I can clearly see nipples.

Here's hoping I'm right, I'd like another member of the house to be female!

We tell everyone to get them neutered at five months, whether male or female. Six months can be leaving it too long.
