Why do cats drink out of puddles?

Stan always has fresh water but I've just seen him lapping from a large puddle on the terrace. Does rainwater have some extra catty nutrients or is he just being cussed?

same reason they drink out of taps, toilets & people's glasses I imagine Grin

Mine likes me to put the bathroom tap on

They are scavengers by nature.

One of mine prefers the loo over the nice clean bowl of water that is available to him. And he looks ridiculous while he drinks from the loo - very undignified, as I keep telling him.

They don't especially like tapwater, especially if its still rather than running, something to do with whats in the filtration process before it gets to our taps. Puddle water is fresh.

They don't like the chemicals in tap water. I boil ours before giving it. They also drink out of any old water they find lying around.

Mine drink out of the pond then turn their noses up if the water bowl has a cat biscuit in it. Weirdos.
