Our new kitten (14 weeks old)that we have had for 6 weeks, has started smelling the whole time.
Thought she was not cleaning herself but she was sitting on me last night and I heard a pooft sound.. So our kitten farts!!!
Has anyone any ideas what can cause this???
Have a older cat, but she has never smelt before!

Is she on wet food?

tulipflowers · 10/09/2013 21:45

Been keeping her on dry food since the smells started, gocat kitten

Never had a cat who farted unless they were in trouble with their innards. What is her pooing like? And have you changed her feeding routine recently?

tulipflowers · 10/09/2013 21:53

Not changed her food at all, except older cat was eating the kitten food and not her own normal cat food, so only brought kitten food this time for both cats. Maybe she was eating the older cat food, at that's the problem!
Will buy normal food.. Though will that not be good for the kitten?

It might be the cereal in the go cat, try applaws complete in pets at home, it's 80% chicken with potato.

Ime cats fart every so often.

Mine did in response to going to the cattery. She timed letting one out in my face when she left my lap.

She was very smelly on wet food and hardly at all on indoor only food.

I've had a couple of farters - and they all ate the same food so I never really understood why.

Don't feed Go Cat though. It's really bad stuff and can cause all sorts of health problems. If you are feeding dry try to give them the better quality stuff (Iams/Applaws/James Wellbeloved etc etc) if you possibly can. And wet food is always better than dry.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to buy some if the more quality cat food, and I'll let u know if the smell is gone

My mum had a farter. He was a right stinker. She even worriedly took him to the vets. She moved him on to science plan sensitive and it seems to have sorted him out.

My old girl can clear the sofa with one expulsion
Normally as an act of revenge after I've shifted her from my seat.
On the plus side I can blame her for any of mine.

issey6cats · 22/09/2013 13:07

lol my smallest cat can clear a room and when the dog joins in with the wiffmobile you need a gas mask, all my cats are on butchers classic tinned and feline fayre gourmet dry and she is the only one who does it

Mojavewonderer · 23/09/2013 22:11

Hehe one of my cats does an awesome botty burp that can clear a room in seconds. She's been vet checked and it's just something she does lol
