Long time lurker but never posted.
i've seen a beautiful brown mackerel tabby needing a home. He is 13 but healthy and chipped. Going to see him in rescue centre on Friday. Should I get him?

Just to warn you that you might have some problems on the insurance front, Rolly, due to his age. Other posters would be best to advise you on that.

Just sneaking in to say our rescue cat is 18 this year. Enjoy!

Rollypoly100 · 13/09/2013 23:57

Ok, thanks Cozie. I'll do that.

However, when I got Seniorboy, he needed nothing doing (apart from routine shots) until some dental work at about 16 and in the last year, some monthly meds for arthritis. I don't have insurance for him but I'm probably ahead on what I would have had to spend if I had.

Yeah, my old boy is uninsurable. Not sure about a 13yr old but a 21yr old is not a great investment for an insurance company.

To be fair to him though, he barely needed the vets until he was about 18. It's only recent he started on medication.

When I was fostering we rehomed a 19 year old. The lady who got him took him on her 90th birthday, she didn't want a kitten.

Oh and she had made arrangements if the cat outlived her.

A couple of months ago, I saw a 19 year old cat looking for a home on a breed rescue site. (He was in good health but his owner had died. Poor old boy.) He was only there for a week or so before he found a home. Really cheered me up.
