Feliway diffuser or spray?

Hello, hope someone will be able to help me out.

We're getting a dog soon and want to try to introduce the cats with not too much trouble. The dog won't be allowed upstairs where the cats' beds are so they will have space to get away from the dog if they need to.

I was thinking of either getting a Feliway diffuser or spray to help calm them down, but not sure which is best. There's a socket not far from their beds. Any views on which would work best? Thanks :)

Diffuser would be best for this situation. Spray best for boxes or individual items of furniture.

Oh yes adaptil collar (dog version) very good for helping new dog to settle. Worth seeing if you can get on the dog 7 days before it comes to you.

The diffuser is designed to permeate a wide area with a scent of 'happy & relaxed' pheromones. The spray works only in the localised area to which it is applied.

In your situation I would opt for diffuser, to project the widest possible area of calm, however (cautionary note!!) you need more than one diffuser to cover the downstairs of one medium sized house. One, in a large room, won't have much effect.

If you are only buying one, then next to the cat beds is the best place ..... and do make sure the dog learns that not going to those beds is a prime rule.

What kind of dog is it to be? And a puppy ?

Thanks everyone.

We're aiming for an older puppy or young adult dog. It will be a rescue from somewhere that uses foster homes so we can get one that we know is OK with cats. We'll be using a stairgate to start with and then hopefully we'll be able to train the dog to not go upstairs.

I didn't know about the adaptil collar, thanks for that :)

I was shocked how effective the feliway diffuser I used was when I needed my nervy kitten to relax, it made a massive difference.

I was sceptical at first but it was excellent. Highly recommended!
